Bedroom Etiquette

If you have to blow your nose in the middle of the night and your SO is sleeping, do you step out of the bedroom to blow your nose or do you just blow your nose in the bedroom? Note you know your SO is the lightest sleeper ever.

Re: Bedroom Etiquette

I don’t think I would even think twice about getting up to blow my nose. Something that would make a lot of noise like listening to my phone would be rude for someone who is a light sleeper but to blow your nose? No.

In bed. If I am sick, I am in bed. Same for my husband. I would never expect him to get out of bed to blow his nose.

He’s not sick - just needed to blow his nose. He had literally just peed. We have tissues in the bathroom. If he was sick, I’d give him a pass.

Re: Bedroom Etiquette

I blow my nose. Though DH says I’m rude during the night or if he’s sleeping in general. I’ll think nothing of closing the door regular (which makes the clicking sound) as opposed to when I’m sleeping, he turns the knob and closes it slowly so it makes no sound. Or I’ll empty the dishwasher clanking plates, etc not thinking twice if he can hear me upstairs.

I just never think about it and it probably is quite rude.

In your case, If he just came from the bathroom, he could have done it in there. Knowing you’re a light sleeper. But I have to admit, I would just blow my nose

Lol - yes, we’ve been together a long time. This would have honestly bothered me early on too as I am a very light sleeper. I have ear plugs and a sound machine to just block out his regular breathing - how would he think blowing his nose would not wake me up?!?

The things we deal with when sleeping with someone lol. I have heard so many couples sleeping in separate rooms and honestly I think that sounds like a great idea. If it doesn't affect the rest of your marriage, and you can get a good sleep, why not?

Reminds me of the King of Queens episode where Doug and Carrie had twin beds temporarily while waiting for a new mattress to come in and they loved it so much they wanted to make it permanent!:Chat Icon

I know off topic but this reminds me of the person (I think was on this board but I could be wrong) who said she would go to another room every time she had to fart. I always remember that and think, EVERY.TIME??? I couldn't imagine getting up in the middle of the night to go and do that someplace else lol

Yup lol.

When my oldest was away at school my husband would sleep in their bed many nights and I LOV.ED it lol. Of course the dog still decided to sleep with me, on top of me even though he had the entire king bed to sleep in lol.

I have a friend who asked me about this recently and she couldn't believe how many people do this. I said, why not? If it doesn't affect your intimacy, then what is the problem? lol

Normally I’d say blowing your nose in bed isn’t rude. How loud is his nose blowing that it wakes you up??
But since he just came from the bathroom, yes he should’ve done it there.

I was listening to Z100 recently and they had a poll about this, and so many people sleep in separate rooms than their SO due to snoring!

I should add that he gets up super early for work (4am) and works outside all day so he needs sleep. But I wouldn't leave the room to fart. lol.

Yeah farting is different. That comes down to someone being embarrassed to do bodily functions in front of their spouse- which I can't imagine. You are both human. You must know that you both fart, burp, poop. I can't imagine living my life not able to be comfortable in my own home.
When you're first dating, I get it... but after so many years of marriage? Especially if they have seen you birth a baby? Come on.

The nose blowing thing I get because if it wakes the other person up, I can see wanting to leave the room to do it to be courteous. Not out of embarrassment that you're blowing your nose though.

I would go to the bathroom to do it. Mainly because if I wake up in the middle of the night, I instinctively just go there.

This is my DH.

I find his nose blowing annoying during the day but unbearable in the middle of the night.

He told me “I just figured you were awake.”

Re: Bedroom Etiquette

This is a funny question!

I would have to get up to go get a tissue but if I happened to have them next to me, I would just blow my nose. And that would be retaliation for him just firing up intense conversations with me while I'm still sleeping and he is getting ready for work at 5 am. Such as: "hey, did you figure out who should be the guardians of our kids if we die and your parents are dead?" or "Can you run the sprinkler system?"

Re: Bedroom Etiquette

I suffer from allergies, so I go to sleep with tissues on my bed side table because if I need to blow my nose, I do it right there on the bed. Saying that, if I go to the bathroom, I blow my nose there.

Of I were in the bathroom anyway I’d blow my nose there. But if I weren’t, I wouldn’t think twice about blowing my nose in bed and neither would DH.
