No, course not....A friend is looking to buy a condo/townhouse and sends me some of the listings....They are looking for a bigger one, like 3 BR's...and this one looks GREAT for the price. She saw some at like $400K that were in horrible areas...

The only thing thats not good about the condo is the school district. If you dont plan on having kids while you live there then it is good

Longwood is not that bad. It gets more of a bad rap than it deserves.

How do you know? Do you live there or have children that go there? This is how districts continuously have bad raps...

um i went to longwood and my children go to longwood. The elementary schools are wonderful its the high school that isnt great. But to tell you the truth, a school is what you and your children make out of it. I have seen kids go to other "not so great schools" and they got a wonderful education. The class sizes are big but the district is huge. You should really look into the school a little better before you start bad mouthing and entire district. especially if you are going on what the district was like in the past.

nobody is bad mouthing and i myself KNOW about the SD and have a right to my opinion!

Sorry, but so do I. I know people that went to the district (not long ago either) and it was not good. Not all of the areas that go to the district are bad, but there are lots of really bad ones mixed in.

ALso if you ever notice that the houses in that school district will be less expensive than the houses in lets say Sachem school district as an example. Check out mlsli.com and do a comparison of the this school district against another school district and you will see a drastic price difference in houses

as you go further east the majority of the houses appear to get less expensive.

But it is true in areas obviously undesirable there is a considerable difference. A condo in my complex is going for 250K and it is a 1 bedroom Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

you have to remember that longwood school district is huge. it covers a diverse area. there are some bad parts of longwood sd. so yes there are places that i would not live (like gordon heights, parts of medford that are in longwood sd) but there are places that are very nice and i would have no problem living in. Patchouge medford sd is supposed to be a good sd but i wouldnt want to live in parts of that sd. I think to make a sweeping generalization of an entire sd is foolish. Do you have children that go there? or close neices or nephews who currently go there? my kids go to WMI and i think the school is wonderful. (which by the way is the elementary school that a child who lived in coventry manor would go to.)

YES actually, my BIL's step-daughter goes there....

Of course all areas can have their good and bas areas....IMO the longwood sd had more BAD.

We all have our opinions...it isn't "foolish" it is just that OUR OPINION. Chat Icon

Based purely on statistics of test scores and crime rates within the school, Longwood is in the bottom quarter of Suffolk. Will every child that goes there wind up a delinquent? No, but if some of us have the option and means to afford a different district, we will most likely do that. School opinions shouldn't be taken as personal attacks.

Re: 3 bedroom townhouse in Middle Island...VERY NICE

I work in the district, and in the HS, and the school has gotten better. Test scores have been increasing.
Yes, I agree it is NOT the best, nor is it the worst. Some of its surrounding districts are not as good either. There are some bad parts of the district, such as Gorgen Heights. But like I said I work in the HS and it is NOt easy, but I LOVE it there. I work with the best people in the WORLD!!!!!!

My cousin has a three bedroom unit in that development (2 down, one up). Her backyard faces the pool. she bought it a little over two years ago by herself. The layout of the development is nice... very wooded.

This statement is very false. We live in an expensive area and our school district is not the greatest. We are paying for the area.

i wouldn't say it is VERY false. I am sure there are some areas that are pricey, every district has its highs and low areas. But the majority is less expenisve. Longwood covers a VERY large area...And yes it does have some nice neighborhoods...But overall the area is less expensive than the areas west of it.
I have looked at the houses in the pricier areas of longwood SD...In reality those houses put in a different location would become about 200K MORE expensive then they are in their current location. The SD, imo does in fact bring down the actual value of the houses overall.

Not necessarily true...Southampton is expensive and very desirable, but doesn't have a good school district. This does not bring down the value of her house. I know this because DH's sister lives there.

PS. I am not putting down the Southampton SD... I am solely going on what my SIL says...personally I think that every SD on LI has it's ups and downs...for example Sachem is supposed to be great, but I talked to some of my friends whose kids go there and they complain of overcrowding in the classrooms. I guess it's all relative. My other SIL says Middle Country SD is great, but I hear on LIFamilies that it's not so good...who knows!

Good luck for everyone with their choice on where to live. We all have our own reasons for living where we do!

Same for Rockville Centre - whether you're in the RVC SD or Hempstead SD, the housing prices are not reflective of the differences in the SD.
