Bedtimes?

What time do your school aged children go to bed? My 2nd grader and kindergartener go to bed at 8:00 on school nights. From what my 2nd grader tells me "EVERYONE" goes to bed at 10:00!!!

Thats not happening in my house, I told him that we would move it till 8:30. My 3 year old is in bed by 7:30.

They all wake up between 6:30 and 7:30 am.

Just curious what others do?

Re: Bedtimes?

my daughter is in 1st grade and we also still do 8:00 in bed. She will read for awhile but is usually in asleep by 8:30. I try to keep it the same on the weekends too unless we have something going on or there is a show or movie on that she really wants to see, but a lot of times I DVR the show for the next day.

Re: Bedtimes?

My DS (PreK) and DD (1st) go to bed at 8pm. DS (3rd) goes to bed at 8:30. Sometimes I let them stay up a little later (usually the 3rd grader if we are watching one of his animal shows). I know lots of kids who apparently go to bed later for various reasons but for me, 10pm is not a good bedtime for small kids. Mine get up in the same time frame as yours. The 8 yr old is always up by 6:30

Re: Bedtimes?

I have one in K and 1 in second. They both go in their rooms for the night at 8:00. If they choose to read or watch a movie that is fine with me, but they must stay in their rooms. My older one is usually fast asleep by 8:30. The younger one stays up later than I do!
They both get up for school at 7:30 without a problem.

I teach second grade and a lot of my students claim to have no bedtime. In some cases I bet it's true. Chat Icon

Re: Bedtimes?

Bedtime is 8pm for my 6 and 3.5yr old on average. I try to get them in their beds by 8 most nights but it is usually a little later by the time I get them all showered, dressed, teeth brushed and books read. They fall asleep pretty quickly though - they are both exhausted. The little one fights it but the big on is out fast!

They aren't allowed out of their beds before 7am in the morning. They are nasty if they get up earlier and even getting up at 7 - they need more sleep....they are most rested and happy when they get up after 730 but unfortunately that is rare these days.

Chat Icon My K doesn't really have a bedtime. I guess that's because he usually goes to sleep on his own around 9:30

My 4 year old is a fighter. We try to get him in bed by 8:30, but it takes him a good hour to go to sleep.

Re: Bedtimes?

My little girl (20 mo) goes to bed between 7 and 7:30.

My boys (2nd grade & pre-K) go to be at 8pm. Sometimes my older son reads for an additional 20 minutes but by 8:30 he is out. Usually on both school nights and weekends but occasionally a bit later if we are out on the weekend.

My pre-K child is an early to bed girl! She goes to bed between 7:30-8 without any issues at all. She wakes about 7:30 a.m.

My 1st grader is tougher, especially when there are after school activities and sports. I aim for 8 p.m. (he needs to be up by 7 because his bus comes at 7:40). Lately, it seems like he is never in bed before 9 p.m and its frustrating!

Usually both of mine are in bed by 7:30 and fall asleep fast. DD (Kindy) gets up around 6am (never changes, no matter how late she's up) and DS (pre-k) gets up around 7am.

My Kindergartner and 3 year old get into bed between 8:00 and 8:15. Sometimes they fall asleep right away, other night they are up until 9:00 but they are quiet in their beds.

Re: Bedtimes?

DS (Kind) goes to bed between (is asleep) by 8-8:30 and I have to wake him up everyday about 6am...

He comes home exhausted daily; and even trys to nap when he gets home from school...

I probably need to move his bedtime back to 7/7:30; but its just so hard with dinner, homework, bath, reading and spending time together (not to mention nights we have teeball or other extra activities)

He is having his tonsils/adenoids removed next month to hopefully take care of his sleep apnea... Im hoping he'll be less tired after that it taken care of...

My younger one (21 months) goes to bed by 6:30

We try for 7:30. I have one in K and a 2.5 year old. More often than not it's 8pm and our worst nights are 8:30 but I really try not to be that late. I feel that sleep is so important and kids really don't get enough.
