Beef stew withOUT a crock pot???

Is this at all possible? Do I need to purchase a crock pot to make beef stew? What else can I cook it in to make it?

I own:
Calphalon Tri-Ply stainless steel 13 piece set
Pyrex glass cooking set
Corning French White bakeware

Can I make it in any of those things and if yes, then does it go in the oven or on the stove?

You can make it in a stock pot, pop that in the oven so long as it has no plastic pieces on it.

You can make it on the stove top also.

When my mom got rid of her old crockpot she just made it stove top. You just keep the flame very very low.

Just make it in a big dutch oven.

Sear the meat first in a little oil. Remove from pot and add your mirepoix. When mirepoix is softened and cooked, return meat to pot and add beef stock, some red wine, some tomato paste, and whatever other seasonings you like. Keep on low/med flame for a couple hours, probably about 4-5 or until meat is tender. If sauce is too thin, add a little slurry to it to thicken it.

You can use the big pot from your claphalon set. Paula Dean has a good stove top recipe on the foodnetwork site.
