Barb, as usual, beautifully put and I agree 150%. I don't see today as a day for my husband to go out of his way to show me he appreciates me - he has every other day of the year to do that I see it as a day to celebrate with my mother, and to celebrate with my Daughter. Just getting that big, sloppy kiss and hug in the morning as Alex wished me a happy mother's day, was more than enough for me I am just beyond eternally grateful for the gift that I have in her each day of her life

You all know my story. My DH kept apologizing all day yesterday because I didnt get a bday card or gift OR a Mother's Day Card or gift.
Did it bother me? Not ONE bit.
Why?


1.This man gave me 2 beautiful children.

2.He rearranged his work schedule to be able to work from home so he can help me out AND take me to go see Carolynn

3. He drove us from Manhasset to see Carolynn to Calverton to visit my mom's grave for Mother's Day.

Did he complain once? NOPE

Its the little things he does everyday that celebrates me as a mom

go out and buy yourself something, and then come home and tell him not to bother getting you anything, that you already got it yourself....





HAHA!! This is what I do too... BUT then I also expect something small... like a card... and something stupid like my favorite candy bar... favorite breakfast in bed.... something like that... (leave the candy bar out this year, since I have to lose this baby weight!!!) But I totally agree with this post.. My husband is emotional at times, and he tells me all the time what a great mother and wife I am... I dont need mothers day to tell me that... and although yesterday was my first mothers day and I did expect bells and whistles, I realize.. that is not what its about.. the greatest part of the day was coming home with DH, DD, and being our own family.. enjoying spending time with my DD, even when she is crying, with explosive poop, and spitting up all over me... nothing is better than that.... and I truly believe it now

Seriously, thank you for that. I am not married to "Mr. Sensitive" but he's a great man, a great husband and a loving father.

Thank you for that.. I really needed to read something like that. My DH isnt the super mushy, share his feelings type of guy and I think I sometimes expect it from him, more so on Mothers Day. Its not fair to him lol.. because he does all he knows how to do

I so agree.... I am realizing this is an old thread.... I thought it looked familiar.

I wasn't even expecting this mothers day to be as good as it was, but with a renewed perspective for things in my life, and some life changes that are forcing us all to find a place of peace and acceptance, I have discovered how truly blessed I am!

it is about celebrating we were blessed by being mothers.

I don't get the dh bashing thread on here, where the girls are complaining they only got a lousy or crudy card from their ds/dd and their dh, I know guys who haven't met their love yet and are dying to have a kid, and married girls who are having troubles conceiving - they just want to hold a baby in their arms. Its Hallmark, flower and jewelry stores that have commercialized the holiday and upped expectations. jmo.

I really like this post. I don't get the bashing myself, unless your husband is lousy the other 364 days of the year, but then it's a bigger problem anyway. I figure, I am not my husband's mother, so anything he does for me (in the name of our son) is sweet. The main thing is that I have my son. He can say happy Mother's Day and understands this is my special day, which believe me, I do not take for granted.

He usually buys flowers, and he does get cards. He didn't realize the flowers needed to be in water (!) so they were kind of frizzled on Mother's Day, but that's him. It's funny more than anything. The one thing we do for Mother's and Father's Day is give each other the morning to sleep in, we bring each other coffee in bed, and he and DS made breakfast. So it was lovely.

My husband isn't always the best with gifts, but he like your husband, does so much through the year that is kind, thoughtful, and generous, that I really can't fault him.
