Behavior Management
I previously taught in the primary grade level for 4 yrs and now I will be teaching in the intermediate grades. And I am thinking that stickers aren't going to cut it for this age group. I have been doing some research on this, but I was wondering if any of you have suggestions? TIA

Stickers may cut it. I did stickers with my tenth graders and they loved it. Go figure!

i was gonna say the same thing! i'm a speech therapist in the schools, and i work with kids from preschool up to 5th grade--- the stickers work for all of them! LOL if you get a good variety of stickers, even the older kids have fun picking one out! i let them put them on their folders to decorate it. and for my kids who are working on articulation that get homework, i do a sticker chart system where if they bring back their homework signed, they get a sticker and after so many stickers they can pick from the prize box... works pretty well!!

Re: Behavior Management
I agree about the stickers, but you have to go about it the right way with the older kids. Just make sure you don't approach it like they're little kids. I kind of play the older ones. I'll give stickers to a couple of kids kind of like a joke, and then everyone wants one. It becomes like a game for them to earn one. Granted it's all part of my plan, but they don't need to know that

My mom uses tickets, like raffle tickets, and they students love it. They use the tickets to get extra points on certain assignments or tests but they can be used as a raffle for a prize too.

I have done this as well. They love it.
As for the stickers, I have them keep them on a specified sheet and then whoever has the most in the class gets a 100 as a quiz grade. Really this has minimal effect on their grade, but they do not realize that.

Re: Behavior Management
I use fake money, sorta like behavior bucks. There is something about them being able to count and hold there own dollars that works like a charm!
