Re: Being Induced
I want to avoid induction as much as possible. I have friends who have delivered w/o induction and with, and most (not all) say without was MUUUUCH better on them. I've also just read in Fit Pregnancy that inducing can increase fetal distress and babies being admitted to the nicu after being born in women who are low-risk.
If you're high risk or your doctor recommends it, that's a different story.

I will admit being due around Christmas I have thought of it. But I doubt I would act on it unless there was a medical reason.
ETA: I actually asked my lamaze instructor about this last night and she was saying that although a lot of people say induction is "harder" what it could really be is that with regular labor you have the gradual progression so your body has time to adjust accordingly. With induction its much quicker. I dont really know though.

I was. But typically, most doctors do not want to just induce you for the he11 of it. If your body isn't ready, then you run the risk of a c-section (I believe 50% of inductions end up a c)
I was induced at 39 weeks due to preeclampsia, I did have my DS vaginally after cervidil and pitocin.

Re: Being Induced
I was induced due to the fact I was 2 weeks overdue. I did the cervadil and pitocin for 27 hours and I didn't make an ounce of progress so I wound up with a c-section.

Re: Being Induced
I was induced at 9 days overdue, gave birth at 11 days overdue, those 3 days were filled with pain, waiting and the fear of having a C-section. Scary stuff.

Re: Being Induced
I talked to my dr. abou this, and we agreed that if my body is ready - what ever that means - I will be induced if the baby doesn't come on due date. I do really hope to avoid that, and hopefully she will decide to come sooner herself!

Re: Being Induced
I would really like to avoid induction. I am afraid induction may lead to c-section. I know my doctor said she typically induces if your late by 7 days. Tomorrow is my due date and I am hoping the baby decides to come out on their own some time soon.

Re: Being Induced
theresa, I was induced during labor and it was PAINFUL! I know a few people that had to be induced and resulted in emergency C-sections not saying it will happen. Everyone is different. You're close enough, you never know what is going to happen. i went into early labor with lauren at 34weeks, medication to stop it until she arrived at 38 weeks.

I had a GREAT experience and would do it all over again in a heartbeat...I gave birth to a healthy 9lb, 8oz baby girl and I have NO regrets
My next baby will be a scheduled c-section

Re: Being Induced
I've been induced with all of my children. My 1st I was almost 4wks late and my water broke but I was not dialating, my 2nd I was losing fluid, and my 3rd his heart rate was dropping.
Oh and the 1st two were vag. birth, but the last one was a c-section.

Re: Being Induced
I will be induced for medical reasons. They switch my meds at 36 weeks and then when baby is ready hopefully 38-39 weeks I will be induced. My sister was induced at the end of her 38th week with her second baby and she said she could have sneezed her daughter out. The first baby she went into labor on her own and said she felt like she was being ripped in two. So I guess it depends on the person.

Re: Being Induced
I was induced but it was a non-medical induction (meaning no pit and no cervidil).
It was a very pleasant experience, and I gave birth 3 hours and 6 minutes after the induction had begun.

Re: Being Induced
I admit it- I was induced *for convenience*. My doctor was going to be out of town and I live over an hour from the hospital- plus, if she came on a Thurs or Fri my husband would have an extra few days home, and my family could be there.
My doctor would NOT have induced me unless my body was showing progress. I was 70% effaced and 3cm dilated when I went in.
Who ever said it's *harder* obviously went natural. What's nice about being induced is you don't have to wait for the epidural- I got mine right away.

You DID?
I didn't get mine for 18 hours!!! They didn't want to give it too soon and have it run out. I did get a demerol cocktail, but I was in pain still with that.
Wowee, I want your doctor

OMG- you poor thing!! They told me that because it's a continuous drip, that I could get it whenever I wanted!!!!
I figured I'd breathe through some contractions for awhile (to feel what labor was *like*)and the nurses kept saying, "Whenever your ready...." They paged the anesthesiologist once I'd had enough and he was there within 5 minutes and I got relief.

did you have high blood pressure before 39 weeks or did it just start to happen at that point?? i'm curious since they are constantly monitoring me. I have extreme swelling and GD but my pressure has been fine. I'm 37 weeks

Re: Being Induced
I wouldn't want to unless I was past my due date. Of course I am only 20 weeks so I may feel differently once I am 39 or 40 weeks and very uncomfortable.

My dr. waited until I was 3cm dialated and just broke my water, beginning labor. I, as another posted stated, also got my epidural immediately. It was an *almost* pain free birth.

Re: Being Induced
i plan to fight tooth and nail to NOT be induced. i have seen too many people (both personal acquaintances and patients that i have seen myself) need a c-section after an induction didn't "take".
i say this as i sit here in pain, with my baby's head between my legs, praying to God that i don't have to do this for 3, 4, maybe even 5 more weeks but as uncomfortable as i am, i feel even less comfortable with the risk of needing major abdominal surgery if the induction doesn't go well.
having said that, if it were medically necessary to have an induction or a c-section - i.e. if my baby's health or my health were in danger - i would do it without question.
