Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

As I near the end of my first pregnancy, I thought I would start a thread about the best and worst purchases I have made for myself throughout this nine months. i figured it may help some of the girls starting their journeys....

Best:
A 35 week bra fitting. I had no idea what size i was supposed to be wearing...turns out I was 4 inches too short in the strap and a whole cup size too small! I have been so comfy ever since. Totally worth it in the end.

Seven Maternity Jeans: Pricey, yes, but they have been with me since I started to really need maternity clothes. All of my other jeans have long been stored away for the next pregnancy.

Gap Tops: They have been my savior. good quality, cute.

Worst Purchase:

THE SNOOGLE! ugh. I know a lot of women on here swear by it, but for me, it was such a waste. big, bulky, uncomfortable...not worth the 50 or 60 bucks IMO.

Feel free to share your best and worst pregnancy purchases...

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

This thread is such a good idea. For me the worst purchase was some maternity clothes that were totally not my style or flattering for my frame. I bought them earlier in my pregnancy because they were super cheap. I felt so unattractive. I don't wear them anymore and it was a waste of money. The best was not a maternity purchase, but maternity releated. I splurged on mineral makeup to cover up my pregnancy acne. I love this stuff. Lesson learned for me it that you have to feel attractive even though your pregnant.

I didn't care for the snoogle either. It is good for watching TV, but I have never felt it was comfortable for sleeping.

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

Best: More expensive Maternity clothes such as Mavi Jeans vs. Motherhood jeans. I'm Petite and alot of the Motherhood clothes are so baggy on me. I have a few items from Motherhood and Target, but they are my least favorite. I much rather Mimi Maternity, Gap, Ann Taylor Loft.

While many don't like the snoggle, I think it is great. I sleep with it almost every night.

Baby bargains and Pregnancy week by week books. Both have great information and helped me a lot.

Maternity jacket!!! This is where Motherhood came in handy. I got a inexpensive coat, that fits great and is super warm. It is not exactly what I'm used to wearing but it works for now.

Worse:
Bella Band! It did help for a while, but it was kind of uncomfortable and I was constantly pulling it down since it would ride up my back. I also didn't like the fact that you could totally see that my pants where unbuttoned under my shirt. It would probably be okay during the winter, but I usually wear a lot of fitted shirts and tanks during the summer when I needed it.

Maternity panty hose when I was 20 Weeks. Totally wasn't necessary. I just wore a bigger size regular Panty Hose.

M/S cures!! Such as Sea Sick bands, VB12 tablets, Preggie Pops, Etc..... Nothing helped!!!

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

Sorry to crash..

Best:
My Snoogle, since I slept on the couch through most of my pregnancy, it was nice to have something to hold me

Maternity pants, so frigginnn comfortable, I want to wear them even now!

Doppler: What piece of mind it brings! Worth every penny BTW for sale if anyone is interested)

Good maternity bra - you wil use it after pregnancy - your boobs do not remain the same!!

3d materinty sono - worth every penny <3

Worst:

Maternity dresses, they are beautiful, but honestly, how often do you wear a dress, and you dont like how they look anyway!

Bella band - complete waste! Only used it for 1-2 weeks, rides up, folds up, not kidding anyone!

AFTER BIRTH - don't buy te nipple enhancers plastic cup things. Even if you want to BF. If your nipples are flat, they are flat. That thing only makes them perk up for a few mins and the baby still doesn't latch!!!

Here's mine in a nutshell (and from what I see, you can't really go by any one person's preference...):

BEST: Bella band. Loooooved it!

WORST: Snoogle. Haaaated it!! In fact, I have one that was used twice sitting in my closet. If you're in Queens and want to get it the hell out of here, be my guest! Chat Icon

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

Worst: Bella Band

Best: Maternity pants and lotsa, lotsa yoga/flowly pants in a size bigger than normal. You can get them cheap at places like DOTS and if you are like me, I spend most of my time in "lounge wear" when I am home/running around on weekends/after work anyways.

And I can wear them after the baby is born.

Fortunately as well, most of my tops and my winter coat were non-maternity, but that's the "style" this year for some reason. Chat Icon

I'm sooo with you on all of this..I also lived in regular leggings just one size a bit bigger and the big flowy forever21 babydoll tops and I literally got away with that until my 8th month!!!

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

Speaking of "non-maternity" wear, I've also gone now to wearing sports bras all of the time. For me they are just a lot more comfier since being preggers. Also, Target and Kmart have a couple of lines (Hanes and I forgot the other) where they are 2/$8.00 in all different colors.

Outside of getting a few pairs of maternity pants in various colors (especially if you need them for work) and definitely at least one pair of maternity jeans, you really can make-do with a lot of non-maternity stuff that is SO much cheaper than maternity. That's an "industry" in and of itself!

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

Worst:
Bella Band... what good for a week, maybe two tops? Ugh, what a TOTAL waste of money.

Best:
Full Panel pants/jeans. I was against them at first before I really got big then they became LIFE savers. Those others would roll under my belly at my pelvis and were SOOOOOOO uncomfortable to sit in! Ugh Full panel were so darned comfy I could/did sleep in them! ha

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

Best purchase I would say I hav a few: Motherhood's nursing bras and hanes xl underwear are two of them. I also LOVE the palmers cocoa butter oil, I'm like a grease monkey but it has worked beautifully for me so far.
I did not buy a snooglefor me, my SIL gave me hers, well actually shoot I bought the stupid snoogle for her when she was pregnant and she just gave it back to me so come to think of it it was MY purchase...lol, well I hate that silly pillow so it was a waste of $$$. Well at least my SIL got to use it and she loved it...lol

Great Thread!Chat Icon

My BEST Purchases:

*The Bella Band/ Tummy SleeveChat Icon Loved that thing! I bought it in nude, black, and white! I wore them all the time- total lifesaver!

* Mavi Maternity Jeans- Def pricey BUT they actually fit me so nicely and they are super comfy

*Baby Bargains Book

*Maternity Jacket- I got the Old Navy one when it was 1/2 off and I'm so happy that I got it! None of my other jackets fit and its nice to be warm in the winter with a jacket that zippers

My WORST Purchases:

*Cheapo Matenity jeans from Motherhood- I bought them early on since they were on sale and I've never worn them because they are just not flattering- what a waste

*All the Pregnancy books- I don't even read em- I get the weekly emails from babyzone, pampers, baby center, etc and I read those all instead!

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

I'm glad I didn't buy any books. I have a stack my friends lent me, and a stack I've taken out from the library and barely glanced through any of them!

Best:
The snoogle- I didn't love it in my second trimester but now towards the end I LOVE it!!!

Joe's Maternity jeans-They were $$$ but so comfortable!!!

The Belly Book--I highly recommend this book. My friend bought it for me as a gift and it has been great. I right little things about each week and it will be a nice keepsake.

Worst:
Bella Band-it didn't stay up on me.

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

Best:

Capal Tunnel Brace, don't know why it took me so long to break down and buy one, but now I can finally sleep. My fingers are still numb, but I don't have shooting pains from elbow to wrist.

Bella Band - it worked for me, I still use it now to hold up my Secret Belly Fit Pants

WORST:
Secret Belly Fit Pants, they were OK in the 2nd tri, but now they just fall down if I don't wear them with a bella band

Cheap maternity clothes in general - totaly not worth it.

I never bought the snoogle, I just use extra pillows, or DH for support - works for me! Chat Icon

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

fabulous thread!!Chat Icon

BEST:

bra extenders - my boobies never grew, i just got a bit wider and it was such a nightmare trying to buy a bra when you're like an A cup to begin with...Chat Icon i got them off of amazon for a couple bucks and can't imagine a day without them!

secrety fit belly pants - absolute God send! i bought them as soon as istarted to get bloated and have worn them ever since! everything about them is fantastic.

baby bargains book - they don't call it the new parent's bible for nothing! such a wealth of information. a must must must buy for all new parents.

snoogle - i guess i take it for granted...when i don't sleep with my snoogle i notice how uncomfortable i am...lol!

WORST:

pregnancy books - who refers to books now a days anyways? everything can be found online! such a waste. def skip all the pregnancy books.

buying clothes that are not meant for pregnancy - i learned this the hard way...i kept on buying clothes like baby dolls and shirts a size larger thinking i could wing it, but i was very mistaken. i wish someone told me to just accept the non form fitting style and make one expense, instead of trying to "cheat the system" and buying stuff that i would wear for a few weeks and then outgrow them. def make sure you are investing in clothes that you can use as you get bigger! even if it means it's big on you now. you'll grow into them!

i'll add more as i can remember them!

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

Oh, I thought of another good purchase:

The maternity belt that velcros underneath and supports your tummy. I don't wear it all the time, mostly just to work when I am on my feet all day, and it really does help with my back not killing me at the end of every day. This is especially good for women who are carrying lower.

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

I don't know what my best purchase was-- I think I bought too many clothes, but I was so slow to show and I have a small belly-- I ended up not needing a lot of stuff I ended up buying. Also, my work situation changed literally the day I bought clothes that couldn't be returned-- so, I ended up with a couple of items that have yet to see the light of day. I say, wait til you really need the clothes, before you get a bunch of stuff. I bought a lot of stuff on sale, that I just don't think I will wear as my belly still doesn't fit into things and I only have 7.5 weeks left.

I do love my Juliet Dream 5 pocket cords and jeans though. And new bras are just a necessity.

Worst definitely was the Comfort U pillow. In theory, it was great-- but the thing is huge and for a prego that needs to get out of bed throughout the night, it's a little hard to "get out of". 100 bucks down the drain.

Re: Best & Worst Pregnancy Purchases

so far the WORST was: Boppy Full Body Preggo Pillow.....i had to call boppy about 3 days after we bought it because it already looked liike it was about 3 yrs old and got all flat....i use it for my feet honestly...

BEST: better quality maternity clothing for sure! the cheaper shirts just dont even show your body at all......spend a few exttra dollars and get less pieces buut quality pieces if your on a budget...i would rather wear my 3 pairs or maternity jeans than 9 pairs of cheapy pants...they just don't fit anyone well...also...make sure tops have spandex in them....for pre preggo thin girls like me the lady in the maternity store told me that the spandex helps grab ur belly and"fit " to your boodyy....helps you look less sack like!!

2nd best purchase: to be honest the twins clothing we have gotten so far..we didn't buy a ton honestly bc we've gotten a TON of gifts already but what we DID buy is all really adorable and "fashionable" little boy clothes..Rob and I are both into fashion and HATE cheesy baby clothes...trying to keep fashion alive with these boys!and we have been able to find ALOT on sale so its not even all expensive!
