In queens, you would want to stay within SD #26.

Re: Best School District in Queens/Nassau?....
It also depends on what neighborhood within the district and how long you want to stay. For example, we live in Howard Beach, Queens- district 27. When looking at the district overall it appears to be a complete horror BUT the elementary/ middle school we are zoned for actually has great ratings and is far off from what school attributes make the rest of the district so poor. So, with ds almost one that would buy us TWELVE years before we might feel we "have to" pay LI taxes for a better school and move away from our families, further from our jobs, etc., kwim? Even then, there are also private school options and the tuitions are around the same as the added taxes if you were to move. This is something I've thought about a lot

We lived in Forest Hills and were zoned for PS 196, the Grand Central School, an excellent school. I'm not sure about the middle schools, but the elementary schools in Forest Hills are great.

I think you get what you pay for when it comes to real estate. The more expensive the house/area, the better the schools. BUT with that being said, there are a LOT of great districts that are in middle class areas. Franklin Square schools are great and in a very reasonably priced area. (I used to work there.)

D 26 is Little Neck, Douglaston, Bayside, Fresh Meadows
And having worked in a few districts in Queens...it is one of the best.

Re: Best School District in Queens/Nassau?....
If you want to cross into Nassau, Great Neck is on the Queens border, north shore. It is one of the best on all of Long Island, and certainly the best you can get in Nassau for a 25 minute train ride into Penn. Expensive, but you get a lot of services for your money. Totally safe town to walk around, clean parks with elaborate playgrounds and bathrooms, quick commute...
