Best thing that happened to you
It's very eye-opening to see how many life-altering things have happened to people in the other thread, and how we can never assume anything about other people and what they're dealing with, or have dealt with.
To balance out the other thread, let's also post the best things that have happened to us.
Of course, the obvious responses for most are getting married/meeting SO and giving birth/having DC. Try and post items in addition to those topics.
Besides DW and DC, my current job is actually one of the best things that happened. Even though it's not as interesting as it used to be (corporate mergers, getting placed into a niche position, etc), it allows me a lot of freedoms to be able to spend as much time as possible with DC and DW. I make enough to allow DW to SAH, I never work weekends, I don't have crazy hours, I can work from home when needed, my boss is great, etc.

Best thing that happened to you
I'll take a bad thing and turn it into a good thing :
The bad : DH having a heart attack, with 100% blockage in the widowmaker artery. The good : His co-workers had the smarts to call 911 right away instead of letting him go home where he would have died. DH had a stent placed and is doing fine.

Best thing that happened to you
My son. After dealing with years of fertility issues both before and after him I realized I am truly blessed. He is an amazing caring kid. He has made me a better person.

Re: Best thing that happened to you
Definitely my daughter, of course. You never understand that kind of love until you have a child. I certainly didn't. Just thinking about her makes me tear up.
But since you said to list other things besides family, I guess, like you, it would be my job. I am so fortunate and blessed to work for an incredible company, but more importantly a boss who is truly a friend for years and who respects and trusts me and my judgment. I have the most flexibility , I can come and go as a I please, I can be home with my daughter when I need to, I am never micro managed or made miserable. I ended up working for him in 2003 by a twist of fate, and I am so grateful for that happening It makes earning a living so much easier when you aren't miserable.

Re: Best thing that happened to you
Its interesting.
My life changing experience was realizing people SAW that I was "on" all the time. I acted a certain way that I THOUGHT would make people like me.
Realizing that was life changing. It was REALLY hard to hear, but thank god I was able to hear it.
And actually NOT having kids has been great. I'm glad we didn't have kids.

Re: Best thing that happened to you
Meeting DH and having my two kids - every single second before them pales into comparison and I say that with the utmost of sincerity. Becoming a Mom without a doubt the best thing that ever happened to me.
Other than that I moved from another country to the US 20 years ago and I love where we live and while I miss my family I do feel content and settled here.
I am a WAHM and for that I will be eternally grateful. I am able to earn money and be there for my kids each and every day when they need me.

Re: Best thing that happened to you
Taking a chance on a teaching interview 17 years ago at a school district I'd never heard of despite growing up on LI.
It was my first interview (I was still finishing up my student teaching upstate) and I was hired on the spot. I have been in my same classroom for 16 years and my coworkers are truly my family.
***** And my kids, yadda yadda yadda

Best thing that happened to you
Besides my three beautiful children the best thing is my new job. I had been commuting into Manhattan from Port Jefferson for 9 years. I was always tired, and missed many moments with my children. Now I an working in Stony Brook and really could not be happier with this career move.

Best thing that happened to you
Aside from having my daughter the best thing that has happened to me was making the choice to become a stay at home mom. It was a job I never thought I would be able to handle. Spending the past three years home with my daughter has helped me to learn so many things about myself. I am so lucky I had this time with her.

Re: Best thing that happened to you
My DD of course, but not just for the obvious reasons.
She has also brought me infinitely closer to my parents and siblings, my aunt and uncle. I am overwhelmed at the love she is surrounded by on all sides- my family, my ILs, friends, co-workers. Of course she brings me so much joy, but seeing the impact she has on everyone else's life is incredible.

Best thing that happened to you
Having my twins by and far superceeds anything. From being told it likely wouldn't happen and our chances were slim we conceived them the first round of medication and were blessed with not just one but two incredible baby boys. I don't know how I ever got so lucky to have them, marrying my husband, and earning my BCBA truly a great accomplishment to me

Best thing that happened to you
Losing 300 pounds over 15 years ago. It changed my life and if I had not done it, I might not be alive today. I have been able to accomplish so many things I never dreamed of before.

Re: Best thing that happened to you
Meeting my DH and our wonderful 4 children. They are my world and make each day exciting and sometimes hectic lol.
My brothers. We didn't have a picture perfect life growing up, but I couldn't ask for better siblings or better uncles for my kids.
And lastly, going away to college. It gave me a big jump into independence and got me away from friends who were doing nothing and going nowhere in life.

Re: Best thing that happened to you
Of course my children but I am going to copy the same sentiment as NervousNell.
I, too, have an amazing boss who gives me the flexibility I need and never asks why. I come and go as I please and work from home when needed. The person I worked for before him was a nightmare. I would cry every day because she used to make me stay at work until a certain for NO REASON and make me scramble to pick up my child from daycare. I would have to ask her if I could go home. It was ridiculous.
Sure, I could make more money at another company but I will never have the work/life balance I do now with my current boss. That to me is priceless.

Kudos to you! I will 100% agree with this.
13 years ago I lost 242 lbs... and the change it has made in my life is astounding...
It gave me the courage/confidence to put myself first for once and in doing so - I met DH...
And yes, he is the most amazingly best thing that happened to me as a result... I wouldn't be 1/2 the person I am (even though I am 1/2 the person I was) with out this man.
