Call the number and stalk the website. If you are willing to travel farther - like to Javits - they have more availability. But, they added so many new appts this week wait times have increased (I got my first dose there last week).
I was in and out of Javits yesterday in an hour and 20 minutes. It wasn't bad. It will probably get longer as the weeks go on but it is what it is. It is orderly at least. Try to get an early AM appointment (before 11am), the line was out the door at 1pm during lunch.
Just keep searching the website every half hour. They do post appointments but they usually get booked up 20-30 minutes after they post them. They go fast!
I was in and out in 30 minutes last week and parked on the street. I got an that morning for that afternoon.
My parents wizzed in and out of there also last week but my friend went yesterday and was there for over 4 hours. I guess something changed for this week.
Thank you all!
Well I can tell you what probably happened. Two weeks ago I originally got an appointment at Stony Brook for April 16 (8 weeks out).
I am traveling to Florida on April 1st so I kept checking the website to see if another place opened appointments sooner as I wanted to try to get the first shot sometime in March to have partial protection. Was going to fly back from Florida to get the shot.
Last Monday Feb 22 Javits opened a bunch of appointments for THIS week. Was more short notice and I was able to get March 1 (first available date) which was great as that now gets me the second dose for March 22nd. Was awesome and I cancelled Stony Brook. So Javits must have gotten a large allocation very recently to administer this week. This would explain why this week was much busier than last. That’s why it’s important to keep checking. The person that got it last week may have booked their appointment back in early Feb.
They also posted over 10k appts for this week at Javits on Sunday 2/28. I was looking for a friend.

Re: Best way to get vaccination appointment?
Javitz is going to be a 24/7 vaccine site starting this week. As for us, I just put us on every list possible. I just had my second shot and my husband’s second shot is later this month. I think NJ has a more expansive list than NY.

Best way to get vaccination appointment?
Try suffolkcountyny.gov/vaccine site. I was SUPER LUCKY today and found my sister a same day appointment at the Brentwood campus of Suffolk Community for people with comorbidities.

That's great. Westchester County doesn't have anything like that. They say that they are only doing 1B essential workers right now, so they are working with employers. There is no waiting list or anything & I don't think there are any county run sites.

Re: Best way to get vaccination appointment?
I was able to get appointments for myself and my parents/aunts/cousin on the NYSDOH web site but I agree I had to hit the "Refresh" screen a few times and I was checking at odd hours (2 am Friday, 7:30 pm on a Tuesday night).
I am scheduled for my shot last weekend of March at SUNY Stony Brook but just found an earlier spot at Aqueduct in Queens so will be cancelling the Stony Brook appointment shortly. My cousin was originally scheduled for 4/16 at SB also but I found an earlier spot at Javits Center on 4/1 so will he will also be cancelling that 4/16 appointment. Keep the faith!

My DH said the same but I don't see anything on their site. I know the pharmacies are 65+ only.

Tourist, I've only been checking the state sites. I have seen a couple of appts pop up at the County Center, you just have to keep trying.

Interesting.

I swear only the march 2 update part was there when I looked earlier, but they are starting tomorrow. It is so weird how hard it is to find this info. I am signed up for all types of county alerts & my friend was looking for an apt b/c of an autoimmune disease, yet this is the first I am hearing of this. and it is already booked already. Thanks for sharing!
ETA- Luckystar: my friend found availability at the county center my refreshing in the middle of the night, but the spot was gone by the time she finished the form.(I am not yet eligible.)
I think she is holding off for now, for other medical reasons, but the inefficiency of it all is so frustrating.
In case anyone is looking in Westchester, the FEMA site in Yonkers is now open to the whole county--they just don't have any spots right now.

Re: Best way to get vaccination appointment?
Someone on here mentioned the FB group "Covid Vaccine Help - New York"
I asked for help in getting an appointment 20 minutes ago. Someone gave me a link to fill out some info. Within 5 minutes I had an appointment. How crazy!
I highly recommend joining.
