I play a little game where I put a goldfish (the cracker, not the real thing! Chat Icon ) in one hand. Then I show her both closed hands and she has to guess. She only eats a few, so it doesn't ruin her appetite, and it kills time till the food gets there!

She's also getting more into coloring, but her attention span is short so I try different things.

this works well...especially if you starve them first...(I mean make sure they are good and hungry before you take them out)

Crayons
Bribery

I heard Leapster or DSD

Definitely have their food come out early.

I also have established with them from the get go you are bad we leave. We only had a problem once since she was 2 and we left no if ands or buts and she got no dessert or balloon so she knows. But I am lucky Dee loves eating in restaurants and Squish is always happy especially if anyone is looking at him.

Re: Best way to keep kids occupied in restaurants

- individual small backpacks they carry filled with numerous card games/toys, crayons etc.

- small amounts of food/snacks in case their food takes a while

- take pictures, Roman is at a stage where he loves to make different faces and then see them on the camera.

- Clover is a people watcher and will interact with anyone so we try to sit where there are other kids as well

Play Doh is our miracle as well! And it's fun for Rob and I as well. We also will bring word seek puzzles and doodle pads for games of dots or tic tac toe.

Re: Best way to keep kids occupied in restaurants

Love the Play Doh idea. Man I could've used that tip yesterday while eating out since they were both out of control. Fortunately we were the ONLY people in there.
