There isn't an app where you can read their messages. You can take the phone, lol.
However, we have an Apple Watch that is attached to my SO's son's phone and we can read his texts that way, as well as his Snapchats and Tiktok's
I don’t know, one time my neighbor was on his iPads and he was able to see her text message from her iPhone coming across the iPad. That’s how they caught her planning to sneak out with her boyfriend, they were all connected on the cloud or something lol
Yup and this is how someone I know caught his wife cheating on him. The messages that went to her phone also went to the ipad that day
I think if you use the same apple ID for the phone/iPad. My messages all come up on my phone, iPad, and computer because I use my apple ID for all 3.

Correct.
My kids have their own Apple ID's

The best way I have found is to set up an Ipad (we have an old one) with all the apps she uses and we can see everything she does, including texts, messages, photos etc.
And just to reference a few other posters who said that if they need to monitor that much, there is a problem, for us, it is not so much monitoring what my daughter does. It is monitoring what everyone else does. People are mean, kids are mean so I'd rather see what is going on then not knowing about it and it becoming an issue in the future.
Thank you and you explained it much better than me on why I want this

Best way to spy on my kid ...
I don't think you need an apple watch to do it. I have an ipad, watch and an iphone and i can read all my messages on all of them, my watch, ipad or iphone. It has to do with logging in with same Apple ID, not device type.

Can you explain how you set this up? MY DS has an apple watch attached to his phone.

Do you have an old iPhone you don’t use anymore? If so, you could do below.
get another iPhone solely for the purpose of monitoring, that you would not use for anything else. Log it in to the same Apple ID as the child's phone, then enable text message syncing. This will replicate the messages on the monitoring phone. But don't make it your phone, because your child can then spy on you. But this won't help with the other messaging apps. You can block installing apps, which will force your child to use only the built in messaging to deal with that possibility

I know with Verizon you can view all texts online (even if they were deleted from the phone). It def works with iphone. You just have to make a separate login on myverizon for each phone number.
.
When you log into your Verizon account, you can see the numbers texted yes. You cannot read the actual texts and what they said. I think that is what the OP was looking for.
Yes, you can read all the texts. Even if they were deleted from the phone.

Doesn't this require you to use their Message+ app and not the native text messaging app on iPhone and isn't it for Verizon to Verizon customers only? Also iMessage (blue text) would not work with this Verizon app.
Apple locks down the built in SMS app for privacy reasons. Even if you own the account and want to get access to the prior text messages you typically need a subpoena sent to their legal department.

It's just set up like a regular apple watch, we paired it. But he doesn't have the watch, we do.
I don't think you can pair more than one watch, but I'm not sure.

When I do this I can only see my own messages, not my child's. Is that because she has her own Apple ID?

You have to create a Verizon login for her phone number. Register Her login won't have access to all of the account info. Just the info for her line and her texts. Your account is still considered the "account owner".

Yes it will send her a text code to enter onto the website to verify it's the phone user. So it's def easier to do it before giving a kid the phone, but my sister just told her son that she was trying to log in to pay the bill and for some reason it's sending the verification code to his phone.
ETA: That sounds sneaky, but given what she suspects her teen is into, it's understandable.

But this is still TEXT messages, no? iMessage and other messages wouldn't come up.
Also there is WhatsApp, Houseparty, Snapchat, and Insta too

My sister uses iMessage as their default messaging app. I have a Motorola phone so my default message app is a verizon one and before that I had a different droid based messaging app. Both of our Verizon accounts display it on the computer the same way. I assume this only works to log messages sent to and from a Verizon phone number regardless of which app you use to read them. I wouldn't think they can log the chats of other apps, I just assumed the post was asking about text messages, so I just shared that there is actually way to read them online if you have Verizon.
