Beta Strep infection during pregnancy

Thank god I went to the new dr. My old dr. didn't even do a pap smear or any anything when I went for my 1st OB appt. When I went to my new dr. they did a pap smear and I just got a call that I have a beta strep infection. They are putting me on an antibiotic and said it is a pre-cursor for pre-term labor. Between this and the hematoma, this pregnancy is throwing me for a loop Chat Icon

Has anyone had this during pregnancy? I am 11 weeks today.

ETA: I guess every pregnancy truely is different b/c I didnt have any of this when I was pregnant with DS Chat Icon

I have it. The one thing is that even with antibiotics its never going to just go away. You will most likely always test positive for group beta strep. Group beta strep is very common, and its very rare to cause preterm labor, the most important is to make sure the mother and baby dont pass it to eachother during delivery. Thats why when your water breaks they give u the antibiotics to protect the baby during delivery.

Re: Beta Strep infection during pregnancy

I had it & was put on the antibotics. When I went for my ultrascreen I was informed that since I already did test positive that I would test positive again but not to be concerned since it is pretty common. My OB said when I do go into labor, i will be given penicillen through IV to prevent me from passing it to the baby

I tested positive for it recently, and am due in 5 days! Chat Icon

I will have IV antibiotics at delivery... not penicillan though because I am allergic.
