BF moms- bottle question
I guess we've not been that good, because today was only the 2nd time we've tried to give DD a bottle (of pumped milk). She HATES it and refuses to drink from it. What the heck are we going to do? She's going to have to be taking bottles when I go back to work and other times. Any tips, suggestions? I guess we should have introduced them much earlier.
BTW: We're using the Medela bottles/nipples that came with the Pump In Style pump.

Re: BF moms- bottle question
We introduced bottles to DS pretty early on and he still tries to refuse them at times. Last week at Grand Central he simply refused and I had to BF him in the dinning area (FUN,FUN,FUN).
Things that have worked for us...
1. Experiment with different bottles and nipples. DS prefers the Platex Drop-In bottle.
2. Sometimes walking around while feeding him works.
3. Sometimes the temperature has to be just right and that varies daily. Most of the time body temperature works.
DS always comes around when he realizes that if he wants food this is how he going to get it. Good luck!!!!

Re: BF moms- bottle question
DD only liked Dr. Brown's wide neck bottles. She hated the narrow ones. You may have to try a few different ones to find one DD likes.

Re: BF moms- bottle question
Try having someone other than yourself do the feeding and don't be visible. If Dc knows you are there, that's reason enough to reject a bottle.
Also, be patient. It took my DD 4 hard days to accept the bottle. We just kept trying. Now at 10 months...all she wants is the bottle.

Re: BF moms- bottle question
It took DD about a week before she'd accept the bottle. We tried the Avent and she didn't like those, so next we tried the Playtex Drop-ins and that's the one she took. Just keep trying!

Re: BF moms- bottle question
Thanks ladies, we'll keep on trying. I'm just so upset that I wasted breastmilk that I now have to dump out. Guess next time we'll just put a tiny bit of milk in it to try it out, and refill if she likes it!
Thank you

Oh, I wasted a lot as well. It's extremely frustrating! I eventually learned to only put an ounce in during the trial phase.

Re: BF moms- bottle question
Definitely use 1oz of BM at a time while you're testing out bottles. When you find one DC likes you can always add more milk.
