BF moms, help me not feel so guilty
Tomorrow im having surgery and will be under anethesia. Therefore, i cant BF for 24hrs.
Pumping has never worked for me so i have no stored milk so i have to supplement this wkd w/ formula. I spoke to ped about it and i have given it to him a few times the past 2 wks so he can get used to it and he was FINE.
But.... im feeling SO guilty about jhaving to give him formula. This is NOTHING against FF moms, to each their own, but FOR ME, im all about BFing and i know he is FINE on the formula for 2 days, its ME that feels guilty.
I plan to bring my pump to hospital so i can "pump and dump" and not lose my supply.
Ok thats all.... thanks

I remember feeling that way about formula, even though I know it's perfectly fine. When you are a BFing mom, you go to such lengths to provide BM, that any time you can't you feel like you failed. Don't feel that way. It's one day. He will be fine and won't know any better. And you will be able to get the rest that you need. Try not to worry about it.

Re: BF moms, help me not feel so guilty
As an EBF mom too, I can definitely identify with your sadness and guilt. BUT.....you need to be healthy in order to continue BFing successfully. One day of formula will absolutely not alter his pattern or his connection to nursing. This is a good example of how things are often tougher on us than they are on our DC. 24 hours is a blink of an eye in the whole scheme of things....No Worries Mama...you're doing the right thing. Good Luck Tomorrow....Wishing you a quick day!

Re: BF moms, help me not feel so guilty
I know how you feel. I had to give formula to try to clear up some allergy issues and was really upset at first. My DS did fine on the formula and I realized it was OK. Try not to feel guilty, you are having surgery so it's beyond your control. He will be fine. Good luck

Re: BF moms, help me not feel so guilty
I know how you feel even though I never thought it would matter to me as much as it does. DS stopped latching so I had to pump to at least give it to him from a bottle and now that he drinks so much my supply didnt keep up so now I alternate bottles all day, breastmilk and formula. I still feel like such a failure and EBFing for 2 weeks went down the drain. At least you have an end in sight and this is bc you have to, its only for a weekend, you should both be fine!

Does the hospital have a maternity ward?? If so, arrange for maternity to bring you a pump. The hospital grade ones have a bit more power.
And don't feel bad - part of being a mommy is being healthy enough to take care of your baby. You have to have the surgery, so you do what you have to do.

totally agree
Even though DS is FF, I understand the guilt part. I had terrible guilt about not BFing.

I agree. If you want to do it, ask for it.
But Formula feeding is not a bad thing. I had numerous surgeries after having DS, and many radiation sessions where I couldn't feed him for days. It will work out! If you'd like to vent or just need a shoulder to cry on, please FM me.
Good luck with your surgery!!!!!!!!!!
