Bf moms who are dairy-free - ques about starting cereal...
DS is approaching 4 mos and we're getting ready to start cereal. I'm dairy-free because he's sensitive to it in my milk.
Another dairy-free BF mom told me I could only use Beech Nut cereal because the others have trace amounts of dairy in them....
How can rice cereal have dairy in it? Maybe it's manufactured in a facility/on equipment that has dairy??
My ped says not to worry and that even if there are trace amounts that DS shouldn't be that sensitive to have a reaction.
Any thoughts?

I only used the rice cereal a few times because it constipated DS, we went right to the oatmeal. He never had an issue with the oatmeal, so if that has trace amounts too, it wasn't an issue.

I was dairy free and used Happy Bellies oatmeal. No issues at all. We skipped rice because he also had constipation issues.

DD is on neocate. When we started cereal we also skipped rice and went straight to oatmeal because she had constipation issues. We used earths best and she never had an issue. I checked the ingredients and didn't see any dairy in it, but even if there were traces it doesn't seem to be effecting her

DS is only 3 months and is EBF. My pediatric GI told me to add rice cereal to any pumped milk I give him and he told me to get Beechnut and not gerber for the same reasons (DS has reflux and Ive been dairy free). We havent given him any yet bc he wont take a bottle. I ordered 6 boxes of the beechnut on amazon for $17 bc I couldnt find it in the stores.

Irony is that I grew up one town away from the Beech Nut factory upstate and a lot of my grandma's friends worked there years ago...always thought Beech Nut was old-fashioned but here we are -- !!
