BFing Moms- My 9 month old keeps BITING me!!
HELP!!!
My DS will be 9 months old tomorrow and as of the past few days he keeps biting me at every feeding! Today has been the worst day yet! I've tried everything- saying NO firmly, saying NO and ending the feeding, smooshing his face in my boob with a No and ending the feeding! He keeps biting! He has 4 top teeth and 2 bottom and this hurts like all hell!
Has anyone ecperienced this and then it got better? Any other techniques to get him to stop? Does this mean the end is near??
Theres also one other problem- starting about 2-3 weeks ago he decided to refuse bottles so my boob is the only way to feed him

Marie DS just started doing this too, only difference is he just got his first tooth last week. It's a bottom one and it's just about half in. He bites me almost every feeding now. If it doesn't get better I don't know what I'm going to do either, I was hoping to BF till he's a year.

Have you tried really startling him??? It sounds so mean but it worked......

I was also hoping to BF till at least a year! Now I'm not so sure....I can't go on if this continues!! It also seems that he's biting harder every time! It brought tears to my eyes last time!!

...yeah...the day Ryleigh started biting (HARD) was the day that we stopped. She was not really staying still long enough to have a good nursing session anyway--she was too into everything else that was going on.
So, sorry to say, that was the end of the line for us because I was NOT putting up with it!

DD is 8 months old and was starting to bite me last month. A coworker gave me some advice that actually works. It sounds cruel, but you need to startle the baby. When she started to bite, I would gently move her face into my breast for two seconds and firmly say, "No." The first time I did it, she smiled. But I kept up with it, and she stopped. She was annoyed that I was stopping her from eating.

hope she doenst get her first tooth until she is a year then i dont want this to happen yet. and i know she is starting to teeth now :(.

Is he biting you at the beginning or the end? DS is almost 11 months old and still doesn't have any teeth yet. He'll occasionally clamp down on me with his gums. When he does that, it's usually towards the end of the feeding. It hurts a lot, but I'm sure it would be much worse if he actually had teeth. Have you walked away from him after he bites? If you continue to BF, does he bite again during the feeding?

awwwww i'm so sorry marie!! allison bit me a few times and i think face smooshing was the key for us. she hated not being able to breathe,  . i'd say after a good two, maybe three days it stopped. keep doing what you're doing and frankie will stop.

that is about when my DS started it last only a couple of days! WHen they are reprimanded enough they eventually get a clue...lol...I just have to be careful and pay attention and when he is done I make him unlatch so I do have him "Play" which can lead to a chomp!

My older one bit me so hard I bled  It killed to nurse on that side for days but eventually it healed. I figured out that she was biting at the end of the feeding. So I started to remove her a minute or so before she was actually done. It worked well and we were able to continue bfing. Good Luck - it hurts so much, I remember the pain like it was yesterday!

same here..DD actually drew blood with her little fang! And that was just her first tooth. Now she has 6 and hasn't done it since. My sister would bite my mom and laugh about it so she had to stop BFing her at 7 months. Try the "Scare Tactic"...it might work!

Maybe don't say anything and just take it away? And don't offer it again until you know for sure he is ready for his next feeding.
He might be doing it to get that reaction from you.

My DD started this at 9 months and it ended BF for us. But to be honest, I didn't try to work through it because my supply was already so low (I was 5 months pg with #2) that it wasn't worth it to work through for the little bit of milk/comfort she was getting from nursing. At that point, we were just nursing before bed, once during the night, and in the morning. Very very little came out and it was mostly for comfort. After we stopped, she started sleeping through the night and it was actually a very easy transition. She was ready to stop. I also hoped to BF until 1 year, but getting pregnant again made that impossible.

When they bite, I say "ow" and take them off. If they do it again, that is the end of that session.

He's biting at all times throughout the feeding. At first I was continuing to feed him if he bit me in the beginning but he'd just continue to bite so now I've stopped the feeding when he bites. Since he's biting at every session, we're not getting any good feedings iin and I got a clogged duct which luckily unclogged during a good feeding in the middle of the night!!
