BFing moms who can't have dairy-Come in!
I just got back from the ped with Sienna. She has been pretty miserable lately and the ped said I need to eliminate all dairy from my diet to see if it helps so we can determine if she has a dairy sensitivity or reflux.
So, can you guys recommend what foods are good, soy milk/almond milk/rice milk, etc. Meal ideas? I do not eat fish.
I am a huge dairy person so this is definitely not easy. I just saw my veggie burgers have dairy (I imagine it is minimal but I am annoyed!)

I drink lactaid and eliminated everything else. it is HARD. so hard.
I'd also watch the soy b/c it also seemed to irritate my son.

Re: BFing moms who can't have dairy-Come in!
I have been dairy free for over 2 months now---once I saw the change, I knew I could do it. I had a happy baby! For me, I don't like a lot of the alternatives, so I just find other things to eat. Its actually not as hard as I thought, like I said, the motivation to stick to it is that my DS is a different baby once I stopped dairy. I still make pizza once a week, but my part just has sauce and veggies. I make meatballs without parm. I also shop a lot at Trader Joes and Whole Foods, they have a ton of premade stuff without any dairy. Stirfry, tacos without the cheese, I just modify since my DH and my 2 year old can have it. Hang in there, I am a total cheeseaholic, so if I can do it, so can you!!
I don't drink any alternative milk, but I do keep rice milk on hand in case I need to put it in something. I also take a calcium supplement since I probably don't get enough without any dairy. HTH!

Thanks. I need milk more so I can put it in my decaf coffee. I think if I could get rid of caffeine, I can get rid of milk.

Go to a health food store and try some of their vegan cheeses and food. You might be surprised by what you like. They even have vegan cookies.
I like vanilla soy, almond milk and Hemp milk. All tasty.
Also, you can pick up a Vegan cook book. I have one around here some place. I will try to find it for you :)

I just wanted to point out that I didn't need to do all of that.
the biggest problem for me was "raw" dairy, but cakes/cookies/breads etc were not a problem. just cheese, milk, yogurt etc.
also, I drink fully caffeinated coffee with no issue every morning.
but truth be told, over the last few weeks I started incorporating dairy and Luce has been fine. I am thinking he outgrew his sensitivity.

Oh okay. So there is hope!
She is sensitive to caffeine. I did notice a huge difference after I eliminated it.
I will see what my ped thinks if there is just a drop in the food I eat.
On the bright side, this should help my weight loss mission!

When I had to go dairy free, these were some of my favs:
Rice Dream milk Earth's Best butter spread (dairy free) Tofutti cream cheese Amy's Soy cheese pizza Rice Dream and Good Karma dairy free ice cream Paul Newman's version of Oreos (dairy free and soooo good)
I found most of these @ Whole Foods...you will be surprised how many things you can get dairy free...I know I was.
I also used the site www.godairyfree.org. It was very informative. HTH!

Re: BFing moms who can't have dairy-Come in!
I have been dairy free for 2 months now. I am a HUGE dairy lover as well so I knew it would be hard! But honestly, after the first couple days, I got to know what I can and can't have and figure out some alternatives, and it's very easy now. I can't have Lactaid because it has milk protein in it, which is what my son is sensitive to. I use coconut milk and almond milk, usually vanilla or french vanilla. I LOVE french vanilla coconut milk in my coffee! Whole foods is a great place to find dairy-free foods and snacks. They are pricey though. Stop and Shop is the best regular grocery store I've found for dairy alternatives, they have a pretty big selection. I use soy butter (Earth Balance or Smart Balance- just make sure you always read the ingredients before you buy because some of these contain whey, which is from milk). I LOVE Tofutti ice cream- they make some really yummy desserts! I would not recommend their cheese though, I thought it was pretty gross. I have yet to find a good tasting dairy free cheese alternative- let me know if you find any! GL- you can definitely do it! Feel free to ask me if you have any other questions at all!
