Bfing moms- who went back to work @ 3 mths and continued to pump..

What was your babies eating schedule like???

I go back to work next week, so I have been pumping and giving a bottle to kinda SEE what DS "schedule" is like, so I can inform daycare...

It seems DS taked 5oz every 2hrs (sometimes 3)

Does that sound about right???

What was your DC schedule like when you went back to work..

Did you pump every 2 hrs- like you would be feeding DC?

DS was 3 months when I returned to work.

I introduced bottles over a 3 week period and we ended up with:

7am nurse

10am 7 oz bottle

1pm 7 oz bottle

4pm-5pm(varied due to naps) 7oz bottle

7:30pm nurse

No....I did not & could not pump for each missed bottle....my line of work doesn't allow for that many breaks in a day.

I supplemented with about 12 oz of formula a day and pumped 1 time at work & at night before bedtime.

Initially I pumped in the morning for about a month....but I became WAY TOO stressed trying to fit it in each morning.

Kept up this schedule until 7months old. When DS was on more solid foods, we dropped a bottle & I weaned him because my supply became so bad (due to missed or very late pumping sessions at work, missed PM nursing due to over time & work stress).

DS started daycare at 3.5 months. He took 4-4.5 oz every 3-4 hours. Within a few few weeks, I increased it to 5 oz. By 5.5-6 months, he was taking 6 oz bottles though he started eating a little less when we introduced solids. DS is 8.5 months old now and gets 3 5-6 oz bottles at daycare and is eating 3 solids per day.

I tried to pump 2-3 times at work. If I only pumped twice, I'd try to pump again when I was home.

DS is almost 12 weeks but will be 13 when I go back to work. Currently he eats 6 oz every 4 hours. So this will be his schedule

7 am 6 oz bottle
11 am 6 oz bottle
3 pm BF
7 pm BF

I plan on pumping before I leave for work. I leave at around 6 am. And I plan on pumping around 11 am or so at work. Then I will be home by the time he needs to eat at 3 pm.

How do I get a "schedule" everyday he eats at a different time and takes a different amount....

Should I try 6oz and see if he waits a little longer to eat..???

Re: Bfing moms- who went back to work @ 3 mths and continued to pump..

I was determined to get DS to sleep better at night. So I read that if they have more time between eating and eat larger amounts during the day it will help the nighttime feedings, STTN and naps during the day. So I started to stretch DS out so he was only eating every 4 hours. Prior to that he was eating every 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Now he eats every 4 hours during the day and goes to bed at 7 pm and wakes up at 7 am. It has worked for us. It took a few days for him to get on that schedule but to me it was worth it since I go to bed early and get up at 5 am in another week when I have to go back to work.

DS was only 6 weeks when I had to go back, and I think I gave my m-i-l 4 5oz bottles for an 8 hour day. I also gave her some frozen milk for the freezer in case she needed it.
