BFP: Given, then taken away..
Hi Ladies, I am 13DPIUI. Yesterday I got a BFP on HPT, verrry verry faint, but definitely there. Doctors appt this morning showed a positive urine test and sono showed good lining. The doctor told me, "You're pregnant!" I was in such shock I almost didn't believe it, called my husband, he was elated, on cloud nine.
They called me that afternoon and said that my beta was extremely low (27, they would like to see >50), and progesterone was too low, too - 11, whereas they like to see >15. Doctor said that more than likely this is not a viable pregnancy and that I shouldn't have much hope.
I am crushed. Even worse, my husband is more upset and sad than I think I have ever seen him. I was pregnant for a total of 5 hours today, only to have it all taken away...
I don't know if I can do this anymore, I really don't Why do we have to go through all this, what is the point of all this suffering? Now I have to wait for AF to come... although dr. said based on how thick my lining is that could take awhile
Thanks for listening...

hmmm, I think its possible still, I have heard of a low beta..the progesterone is a little low but dont give up hope. If you take another test is it darker at all?
also I know how you feel, I had several chemicals and it reallly sucks,,,after a while I was prepared for them, you may want to get some immune testing and a thromb workup just to be safe.

Re: BFP: Given, then taken away..
umm i think your doctor is jumping the gun a little. your beta isnt entirely that low - especially if you are only 13dpIUI! whats important isnt the number today but how it doubles. did they ask you to come back for a repeat beta on wednesday?? i really find it hard to believe they would be so quick to say it isnt viable. ive heard of much lower betas working out. i would question everything if i were you

I am praying for you. I would not give up hope if I were you. I hope you are continuing with any meds and if you are not taking any I would insist on getting some progesterone to raise your levels.

Your doctor is jumping the gun. I have a 5 year old daughter-my initial beta with her was 24 and my progesterone was 10. I was put on suppositories immediately and of course, I have living proof that a low beta can still work out! Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Re: BFP: Given, then taken away..
Thank you to everyone for your kind words of encouragement.
It is early, and of course I am googling all these great success stories that started with low betas and ended up just fine, and I want to believe, but..
My dr was just so negative about it, and I actually very much trust and respect his opinion in general, so I don't want to get my hopes up too much, I will feel that much worse if/when it doesn't work out. I realize that doctors don't know everything, but I just feel like he has probably seen this scenario played out so many times, he must have some feel for how these things usually go.
That being said, I am praying very hard, and I truly appreciate and encourage all of your encouraging words and success stories.. Keep them coming if you dont mind!
I go back for a beta check in 1 week, if AF hasn't arrived yet. I did not think to ask about progesterone supplements, maybe I will call and ask tomorrow. Since my cd3 prog level was normal, I got the impression the low level now is more likely due to a non-viable embryo/ chromosomal defect than a production deficiency.
Again thanks to everyone for listening!!

Is your Dr. an RE? I would call and ask for progesterone in the meantime. At least that will give you every chance of improving your #s. It just seems a little defeatest of them to say wait and come back in 1 week.

Re: BFP: Given, then taken away..
I think u should also ask to go back for another beta sooner. A week is a LONG time! They should be able to see a difference only a day or two after the last beta.
I'm sorry u r going through this! FWIW, many people on here started out w/ VERY low betas and had a viable pregnancy.

your dr is an idiot( i am sorry to say that). It is the doubling rate of the beta that counts, not so much the number itself. I wish there were fewer moronic drs in this world!
Good luck to you!

also, insist on close monitoring of beta and load up on progesterone.

Re: BFP: Given, then taken away..
#1 DEF call and get progesterone supps TODAY. progesterone levels at cd3 has NOTHING to do with progesterone after ovulation.
#2 DEF call and request the beta tomorrow or the next day. theres no reason to wait a week when it may be rising and not dropping.
i have to agree with the others and my earlier post that you may like your doctor, but he/she is making many questionable and rash decisions this time. you def have a CHANCE of this working out, and theres no reason for him to act like it's definitely not viable. that's really absolutely ridiculous.

Re: BFP: Given, then taken away..
My friend had very low progesterone with her PG. The doctor told her it was not viable. She insisted on progesterone suppositories and has a 2 year old son now. IMO your doctor is writing this off too early. Your beta is not that low and I would demand suppositories. Many prayers for you.

Re: BFP: Given, then taken away..
Ummn...that is a perfectly respectable beta for 13DPIUI. It's lower than average but there are many pregnancies that make it at that level. Take a look at the following site under 13DPO and click on the link for that date...you will see NUMEROUS pregnancies in your numerical category that made it.
