BIG Napping Problem-No It's a SLEEPING Problem!!!!! Help!!!
Alex is like a clock, goes down for a nap every single day at 10:30am (early for some, but she wakes early), and will sleep for 1-1 1/2 hours. Never a peep. The past couple of days she will NOT go down, cries HYSTERICALLY. She will not nap all day unless I put her in the car, which means the 2 of us are miserable. I thought maybe it was time to transition her naptime but she is a walking zombie & is carrying around her blankies & laying on the floor- she's obviously tired. This is SO not like her.
ETA: It's NOT just napping...She will not go down at bedtime either. She was DEAD tired last night, put her in her crib, stood right up and screamed. It took her a long time to finally konk out. The past few mornings she woke early too- today was 5:45am!! (and that was going down close to 8pm with no naps the entire day)...and she wakes up crying, not chatting like usual. I am at my wits end. This child is obviously exhausted beyond belief-what's wrong with her??????? I've been putting her in front of the tv just so she'll relax around her naptime since all she does is scream bloody murder in her crib, I don't want to start bad habits either, but I don't know what else to do. This poor little girls should not have bags under he eyes, it's nuts. I could really use some advice. TIA.

Re: BIG Napping Problem
Is she tired? At one point, they drop from 2 naps to 1, I can't remember what age though.

Re: BIG Napping Problem
My DD did this when she was getting ready to drop one of her naps. It happened around 14 or 15 months old. Maybe this is the problem?

Re: BIG Napping Problem
She really only takes one nap, rarely does 2 anymore. I put her in the crib around 4 but it's really just to "unwind", no sleeping involved. Maybe I'll try putting her down later, but she's obviously exhausted now.

Molly did that for a week. She, too, goes down around 10:30. It may only be temporary. I kept putting her in for a nap and whether she slept or not, that is where she was. She eventually went back to her nap schedule.

Carlie did this when she was getting her 1-year molars. Could it be teeth?

I guess, but she isn't expressing any pain, drooling, etc...She was acting up with these about 3-4 weeks ago. Could be anything I guess, it's just so weird that as soon as I carry her to her room she starts screaming. I even tried playing with her & reading to her in there just to make sure she wasn't "afraid" of her room for some reason...She was fine. I even put her in her crib yesterday & she was jumping & playing in it. She'll do anything but sleep in it.

Re: BIG Napping Problem-No It's a SLEEPING Problem!!!!! Help!!!
I was going to say her teeth as well. Roman just started screaming hysterically the past couple of days at nightime when it is bedtime. He used to say night night go into his big boy bed, I could leave no problem. Now, I say night night he screams bloody murder and I stay with him in his room as long as he stays in his bed. He fell asleep at 9:45pm the other night and 9:15 last night. I'm hoping it is just a stage, he is definitely teething. I also just put a night light in his room.
Unfortunately, I think it may just be the age and a stage she is going through. I hate starting things that could be bad habits but sometimes you have to live in the moment and do what you need to do to keep your sanity. If she only will nap in the car I'd go for a ride. I've been in the Lord & Taylor's parking garage snoozing plenty of times.

welcome to my world!!!!
The past few days I have been REALLY stern with Talia and it seems to be helping. (along with some CIO).
I can only tell you this, as long as you know nothing else is wrong - PLEASE take control of the situation now. I waited too long I guess and am paying for it now.

Re: BIG Napping Problem-No It's a SLEEPING Problem!!!!! Help!!!
I think there's something in the air because MrsR is having the same problem, and now we are as well with Alex. She used to be so good - she would ASK to go to her bed for nappytime and sleeptime.
Now, it's dreadful again - she fights me on her naps, and although she goes right in for bedtime, 5 minutes later she'll start crying and wants to cuddle for at least 15 minutes before she goes back in (not that I'm complaining )
I'd take her to the ped just to rule out an ear infection because I know with Alex, she starts acting up for her naps and bedtime when she has an ear infection

Re: BIG Napping Problem-No It's a SLEEPING Problem!!!!! Help!!!
My DD went through this at about 19 or 20 months old...I definitely think it had something to do with her teeth and maybe a little to do with being more aware that she would rather be up with us then go to sleep. It lasted a couple of weeks and I wound up putting her to bed earlier than normal and that helped a bit. She at least started sleeping later than 5:45am again.
This too shall pass!

Re: BIG Napping Problem-No It's a SLEEPING Problem!!!!! Help!!!
Oh Geez Andrea.. I feel so bad for you and little Alex.. Obviously if she wakes up at like 5:30am then she really is exhausted by 10am..so i dont think pushing the naptime later would help. Then she might miss the window altogether, get a second wind, and then all holy hell will surely break loose.
Maybe like some people have suggested to me when Jacob had sleeping issues was that she may be ready to hit another milestone soon. Is she talking a lot? (Not that Jacob is) haha...But maybe thats it with Alex? Could be a growth spurt... if its not her teeth... well may hugs to you both, hope things get back to normal soon..
Oh and sorry I missed white post farms on tues, my MIL got very very sick and I had to rush her to the dr. One of these days we will hopefully get together....

Re: BIG Napping Problem-No It's a SLEEPING Problem!!!!! Help!!!
We are in the same boat here. Sydney goes to daycare and usually naps from 12:30-2:30. When she comes home she is exhausted. We try and let her play a little and have dinner and then put her to bed - we even moved her baths to the morning b/c she'd be so upset at night. We go to put her down and she will lay down but as soon as we leave the room she will stand up and start screaming and crying. If we go back in, she'll lay down, and if we leave the screaming starts again. Sometimes I stay in her room and read a book in the rocker until she falls asleep. Last night, I sat there for 30 minutes, thought she was asleep so I left, within minutes she is crying again. We had to just let her cry and eventually she fell asleep but then was up at 530 this morning.

Wakes up so happy with a Hi.... I dont know I think I ruined her with the CIO.. Oh god and I sm thinking about #2
