DH grew up like an only child, but his dad has 2 much older kids from his 1st marriage.

FH is the youngest of four
I am the youngest of two.
my sister and I are two years apart- FH's siblings are all 10+years older - so even though he is the youngest, his siblings were out of the house by the time he was a teenager.

Yes, I loved it growing up. I always played with friends and entertained myself. I was never lonely. As an adult, I think it's going to be tough when I have to face certain situations, like a loss of a parent, all by myself. I will have my dh but if I had a brother or sister, I think it would be easier to deal with. 
I am also an only and couldn't agree with you more about all you said.
DH is the third of four.
