Birthday Party etiquette question...

When you take DC to a bday party do you expect food for the adults? Or do you just expect food for the kids?

Re: Birthday Party etiquette question...

I would just expect it for the kids. If parents are going, I would assume cake is for everybody Chat Icon

Re: Birthday Party etiquette question...

It depends on where it is. At a place, I only expect food for the kids. At someone's home, I expect food for everyone.

Re: Birthday Party etiquette question...

I do, I was surprised that one of the parties I went to over the summer had nothing for adults.

Just something to nibble on.

Eta:

Actually, I now don't expect food for grownups at a place, but if I was having a party at a place (jump place or something like that), I would provide food for everyone.

Re: Birthday Party etiquette question...

I kind of expect food for everyone. Usually bday party places serve pizza. I would assume that they would purchase a few extra pies for the adults.

If its around a meal time, I would agree. And usually there is a pizza for the parents which is appreciated.

Re: Birthday Party etiquette question...

I don't expect food for me. I think it's considerate if people have it, but IMO, the party is for my son, I can eat before I go, or when I get home, no big deal.

I don't expect it but I have yet to go to a party where there was nothing for the adults. I think most people do that.

same here. I've never seen no food or drinks for the adults. Even party cake or cupcakes.

I actually save my slices for my son since he is the first to finish and has no problem eating two full slices.

Re: Birthday Party etiquette question...

I figured the "right thing to do" is offer food for everyone. But these party places are charging like $15+ for one pie plus $6 per pitcher of soda.

These birthday parties cost an arm and a leg!

If the party is at between 12-2 or 4-7 I would expect food for adults. Nothing fancier than pizza though.

Re: Birthday Party etiquette question...

We had DD's birthday at Wood Kingdom. We ordered a few extra pizzas for the adults (because DH and I knew it was dinner time and were hungry too) and the cake was for everyone.

Re: Birthday Party etiquette question...

I've never been to a party that didn't serve the adults food. I don't necessarily expect food unless it was during meal time.

Ditto. I've been to dozens of b-day parties with DS over the years, and there is ALWAYS food for the parents.

I know how you feel, we had my DDs party at Chuck E Cheese and ended up spending as much as the kid part cost just on food and drinks for adults!

Every party I've ever been to has food for the parents. I don't expect it and not everyone eats it, but I would have something for them.

Re: Birthday Party etiquette question...

All the parties I have been to at places always have some sort of food for the adults- usually pizza but if it is an off hour their is always fruit and or veggie platter.

At all the parties I have had, I always have some sort of food.

Re: Birthday Party etiquette question...

Funny how everyone says there has always been food for everyone.

DS was invited to a bday party over the summer and there was NO FOOD at all. Not even pizza for the kids! And the party started at 1.

Re: Birthday Party etiquette question...

I guess I would *expect* food for me too only bc I have never had an experaince where there is not. Also...at such a young age (my son is one year) the food at the birthdays is usually only for adults bc the kids are still little.

This may change as I'm invited to more parties in the future
