Bladder Stones ..Questions.
Jack had some blood in his urine this morning,so we immediately took him to the vet. After some Xrays, he is diagnosed with stones (actually it was just one). We have 2 choices, one is change of his diet and wait and see..or surgery. Our vet recommends surgery. She said, there is a chance he can pass it, but there is also a chance because of its location, it could rupture jacks urethra and that could be deadly. I swear my knees buckled right then and there. Jack is my baby, he has never been sick, and just the thought, the mere mention of surgery, makes me ball like a child.
So my question is this, has anyone's pet HAD this surgery. How well/fast did they recooperate after? Has anyone's pet, opted for the diet, and wait and see method. I am so scared of surgery
Should i get a 2nd opinion? I dont want a vet jumping the gun and opening him up, if he doesnt have to be. Also, they gave us a breakdown of the costs, which is $2,000, and requires a 3 night stay Does this sound correct to you? thank you in advance if you got this far.

Re: Bladder Stones ..Questions.
I have a cat who had a similar issue
we did surgery followed by food
the food didn't work quick enough- so more surgery
but 18 months later- he is fine (knock on wood)

Re: Bladder Stones ..Questions.
My pug had stones a few years ago and the vet advised us to change her diet and not to do the surgery, so we did that for a few months, until one night she was in so much pain we took her to the emergency vet and they advised me that if she doesn't have surgery, she will die, so I took her to a different vet and they said that she would need surgery right away, so we did it. It was expensive, but there is no amount in the world I wouldn't pay for my babies.
I think she was in the hospital for 4 days afterwards and when she came home she was a little weak, nothing too extreme. She is back to normal now. We tried to put her on a special diet and she seems to be doing very well, knock on wood. She still is a little sensitive under her belly, she doesn't allow anyone to touch it.
I recommend going for the surgery, because you don't want it to get worse. Good Luck and I hope Jack feels better.

Re: Bladder Stones ..Questions.
My Bruno had bladder stones removed. He was then put on Royal Canin S/O food. The food was not an option first because by the time he showed symptoms there were 12 stones. Bruno does not take his regular shots well so we expected him to be woozy and he was. He was completely back to normal by the next day. I *think* he only stayed overnight but it was in 2008 so I'm having a hard time remembering, there could've been a second night. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I hope Jack feels better soon .
