does anyone else's DC have them? DD has this problem and its crazy how bad they can get...i wipe her eyes so many times a day she hates it, but its either that or it gets caked on and all over the place!
if your DC does have blocked tear ducts how do you deal? my doc wont do anything until 9 months (DD is 3 months)

Re: blocked tear ducts
DD had this for over a month. I just kept massaging the corner of her eyes and cleaning them out. It went away on its own.

Re: blocked tear ducts
DD had this-we massaged the corner of her eye and wiped them with warm compresses. I can't remember the last time she had them. She is 8 months old now-maybe the last time was around 3 or 4 months?

Re: blocked tear ducts
DS#1 used to have this when he was small but they only lasted for 24hrs. I used to wipe it off with a warm wet cloth.

Re: blocked tear ducts
My DD had one in her right eye. We did warm water on a cotton ball probably twice a day. It went away around 3 1/2 - 4 months.

Re: blocked tear ducts
DD had it for the first 3 weeks. It was so bad in her right eye, I felt so bad for her. My Ped. said to massage it right on the side of her eye and nose. It finally worked and now she is fine. Good Luck!!!

Re: blocked tear ducts
All three of my dc's had this. My two girls were given ointment and massaging it a few times a day, it eventually went away. My son however, had to have minor outpatient surgery at a year to unclog both ducts.

Re: blocked tear ducts
DS had it closed a little for the first couple of months but the my ped prescribed some kind of eye drops (have to look at the name) and it went away/opened up, and he hasn't had a problem since.

Re: blocked tear ducts
My 2nd DD had that in one eye. We were advised to use the warm, wet washcloth and apply a bit of pressure along the sinus area. My ped. also wouldn't do anything about it until 9 mos., but did say it was very common and would probably clear up on its own. My DD's went away around 4 mos.

Re: blocked tear ducts
DD had them up until about a month ago. It was so annoying. We wiped it with a wet cotton ball a million times a day and it kept on gunking up. It ws so bad that she had ointment for awhile since it was infected. Then one day she went to church for a blessing before her baptism and she hasnt had them since.

Re: blocked tear ducts
Kristina still has this and I feel sooooo bad for her when I pick her up in the mornings.... That goo is everywhere!
I have been massaging and cleaning for the past 2 months, but I feel like the goo has gotten worse the past 2 days, and her eye is a little bit swollen, so I'm fearing an infection.
We got to the doctor tomorrow.....

Re: blocked tear ducts
Congenital tear duct obstruction is something 90% of kids grow out of. There's a membrane by the nose part of the duct that hasn't opened yet. A lot open up by 1 year.
Massaging the duct by the eye can help a lot.
Here's a good source on nasolcarimal duct obstruction
I hope your DC feels better soon!
