Re: Blood in spit up?

are you BFing? If you are, it could be from cracked nipples or a broken capillary in your breast. Otherwise, if she is formula fed, has she been spitting up a lot?Maybe she irritaed her esophogus or stomach? But she would really have ot be throwing up alot and really wretching.

If you are not BFing then no its really not normal but if it wasn't alot and doesn't happen again I wouldn't be too concerned.

I think that Antoinette's son who has reflux has blood in his spit up sometimes.

Maybe give the doc a call in the morning to let them know.

That is what I am going to do- but a bunch of websites say "call immediately". I am a little nervous. It was a very small amount, and she has spit up since with no blood.

I agree, give the doc a call, could be totally normal, but don't rely on us Mom's for the end all answer, your doc is the best resource, I woul dbet it's nothing though!Chat Icon

Steph I agree with everyone else. It can't hurt to call the doctor.

If it will make you feel better call tonight but if its not alot she probably had a little irritation somewhere but i know it can be frightening when you see it.
Miranda spit up with blood in it (a large amount several time) at 1 week old. I freaked out and was hysterical. It all turned out to be from BFing but I know it can be scary

Re: Blood in spit up?

Bryan had this- its like little brown flecs in the spit up- if its not from your breast then its not normal. Bryans turned out to be a severe milk protein allergy and reflux. I had to cut out all dairy products and any product containing milk ingredients from my diet. Def consult the dr on this if it happens again try to get the spit up on a bib and bring it to the dr, they can test it.

Re: Blood in spit up?

I called the Dr. this morning, they did not seem too concerned, although they don't know what it is.
She has not had it since, they said to keep an eye on it to see if it happens again.
Thanks for all your responses!
