Blood in Spit-Up
Hi,
Have any of you ladies ever experienced the horror of finding blood in your baby's spit-up? Do you know of anyone who has?
I'm worried sick about my sister's son -- my godson. He's a little over 2 months old (and he was born a month early) and he was just admitted overnight to the hospital bc he's not breathing properly and my sister found blood in his spit-up. He's been suffering from what they have thought was acid reflux from day 1 but this is really scary.
Any insight you can provide me with would be greatly appreciated. I'm so worried. Please keep Baby Jake in your thoughts and prayers.
Thanks, Susan

Re: Blood in Spit-Up
Katie had a tiny bit of blood in her spit up twice. I was told to watch it and it didn't happen again. They said it may have come from her nasal passages and not her stomach or throat. They did not do any testing becasue it stopped. for your nephew!

Re: Blood in Spit-Up
Im soooo sorry!!! :
Is he breast fed??? I know that sometimes your nipples will bleed, making the baby get some blood while feeding... hence causing some blood in his/her spit up...
I *think monkeybride had something similar happen to Miranda....

Re: Blood in Spit-Up
Thanks ladies. She actually had to stop breastfeeding bc he was allergic to her own milk and her nipples were practically falling off. It definitely has something to do with the reflux. He's been having these problems since he's born. He gags all of the time and it makes him unable to breathe. It's the blood that freaks me out. Right now, there's a team of doctors working on him at Schneiders so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: Blood in Spit-Up
Thanks for asking. He's still at Schneiders. They're going to keep him there for a few more days. They've done a series of tests on him -- EEG, ECG, EKG, barium, etc.

Re: Blood in Spit-Up
My son has acid reflux also and we were told to look out for blood in the spit up although we never found it (thank god). It could also be an allergy. If the baby was allergic to the breast milk maybe the baby is allergic to dairy or something else that your sister was eating or drinking that is also found in the baby's formula. Best of luck and I hope everything is ok

Re: Blood in Spit-Up
Thanks! He actually does have a dairy allergy. He's on a non-dairy formula right now. They think it's a problem with his trachea now.
