Body Fat Scale
Anyone have a recommendation on one of these? I understand there are huge limitations to these things, but I am looking mainly for consistency of measurement.
TIA!

Re: Body Fat Scale
I have a regular scale that we got at BBB and it also tells you body fat %, water %, etc. It cost about $70. It is really useful for me because I find that when my water % goes under 58% I run a greater risk of getting a migraine!!!! So I check it in the morning and if it is low I immediately start chugging water!

Re: Body Fat Scale
I have on that I bought for about $50 and have had it a few years. I dont know the brand off hand though. I put in my gender and height and it takes a reading on my body fat.
I noticed my % has gone down since I started running. Over a yr it went down a few points but now is pretty consistent.
I got a pinch test done right after high school when I was teeny tiny (borderline emaciated) and they said 15% body fat. I am 10-12 lbs heavier and body fat is up more than that according to my scale - so my point is I do feel it is close to a pinch test.
I do noticed that if I eat bad all weekend and am a bit heavier, that it will read my body fat as higher...so I do think its flawed somehow. However I did ask the trainers at my gym about it and they say it is accurate (they use the one that meaures through your hands).

I looked at the scale this morning - - it is a WW brand. You can program in each adult's height and age to get % readings.

Re: Body Fat Scale
Runners World just said not to waste money on it, no matter how expensive, none are very accurate...temperature, hydration, time of day all throw it off.

I don't know if I agree with this -- I definitely find that the body water % is a pretty good indicator of whether I will get a migraine or not. If I get a migraine and I hop on the scale, I can guarantee it says under 58%.

Re: Body Fat Scale
Well part of the problem with those things is that they don't even give you a consistent measurement within MINUTES. I was looking for one about a year ago and you really have to spend a lot of money to get anything good. The cheaper ones will tell you one number now and then in 5 minutes later, even though you've just stood there, it will give you a different number.
