Bologna & cheese sandwich...

Ok... we haven't been up to LI in almost 2 years. We are trying to come up for the weekend of 4th of July. I REALLY want a bologna and cheese sandwich from our favorite deli. Would it really hurt if I had this sandwich just this 1 time? Thanks! I'm really craving for it! I live in NC and you can't get a cold cut sandwich here like you can in NY.

Re: Bologna & cheese sandwich...

I ate cold cuts all the time when I was pregnant and I saw a nutritionist for GD and she said cold cuts were fine.

I was just told by many people that you can't have bologna unless it was fried! Chat Icon It's like hotdogs. Something with bacteria I think? Chat Icon

I think one of the major concerns is listeria. As long as you get it from a place that stores their cold cuts properly, you should be fine. Your chances of getting listeria are really, really low anyway.

Re: Bologna & cheese sandwich...

It's not like you are eating it everyday-- that is where the concern is.

Have it and Enjoy!!!

Re: Bologna & cheese sandwich...

Cold cuts are fine - just be careful at the end of pregnancy. Escpecially if your feet are getting swollen - cold cuts are soooooo salty and you retain water if you eat too much.
I had to slow down with my cold cuts Chat Icon

Re: Bologna & cheese sandwich...

My doctor said I could eat cold cuts as long as it is the type that the meat is cooked before it is cured/smokes.

Like turkey and roast beef and ham are cooked before they are cured.

Bologna, pepperoni, salami and some others are not cooked they are just cured. Because they are not cooked, they run the risk of listeria- the bacteria infecting them.

However, eating bologna one time will most likely be okay- particularly if it is from a good deli that stores their meats properly.

I ate cold cuts throughout my whole PG, my son is fine. My doc told me cold cuts were fine in moderation as long as I got them from a reputable deli.

Re: Bologna & cheese sandwich...

I say go for it and enjoy your sandwich! I have eaten cold cut sandwiches for lunch atleast 2x a week since the beginning of my pregnancy. I am 35 weeks now and all is well.

They say to stay away from cold cuts because of the listeria. As long as you get it from a reputable place that you know takes care of everything the way it should be - you wont have any problems.

enjoy!! YUM bologna and cheese
