Re: Books for 7th grade advanced kids?
Are there restrictions based upon high school reading lists?
I think the middle school kids could do Mice and Men if they are higher level. It is short and easy.
I also loved Inventing Elliot by Graham Gardner
or
Names Will Never Hurt Me
both focus on bullying.
Speak is a great choice but some districts may discourage that title because of the content
Perks of Being a Wallflower is AMAZING!!
Ahh, kids have such great titles available to them and they still do not read.
On a side note, Diary of a Wimpy Kid is WONDERFUL and the lower level kids in my class LOVE it!! In case you need ideas for those readers as well.

For kids into the rock music scene: Fat Boy Rules the World
You can also try: The Wave (brings up nazi era issues with a modern twist) Red Scarf Girl A Raisin in the Sun Monster Cut( issue of self cutting)

I think Of Mice and Me and the Wave are great ideas. What about Animal Farm? Snow Bound by Mazor
