Bottle users - How do you know when to increase to a faster nipple flow?
What are some indications that DC is ready to switch to a faster flow?

I read if they take longer than 10 minutes to finish a bottle...but not sure if thats correct. Ronan is still at level 1, Declan is at level 2

I always change when my DD starts taking longer to finish a bottle. Which is strange to me, you'd think as they grow and get stronger they'd be able to suck faster!

GRR, I tried this weekend with DS and he cried. He did not like the faster flowing nipple. He's 10 weeks. I hope soon he'll take it.

We just switched to fast flow bc DS was only eating 2 oz at each feeding, then refusing the rest. He did this for about a week before we realized he was probably getting bored with the medium nipples.
Same thing happened from the slow to medium, he seemed to be going backwards with how much he would drink.
On fast, DS is now drinking 5+ ounces again.

To add, this is when we changed:
Slow to Medium at 3 months Medium to Fast at 5 months-but should have done it a little sooner.

I have no idea but I've been curious! I assumed you'd change when they get cranky when eating because they'd need more food faster...don't know if that's correct. You can always ask your pediatrician.

Re: Bottle users - How do you know when to increase to a faster nipple flow?
I just switched today. For me, my DD became very squirmy and fussy drinking the slow nipple as if she couldn't get enough milk. So when I switched today, she gobble it all up without a problem.
ETA: My daughter is 11 weeks today.
ETA: Also, I didn't have any medium flows on hand so she is drinking from a fast nipple.

Emerson would get frustrated while eating her bottle. She would keep taking it out of her mouth and looking at it and she would be visibly annoyed when she ate. As soon as we moved her to the medium flow she was so content when she ate. We switched her to the med. flow at 3 months and so far at just over 6 months she still seems content with that nipple.

OmG, I should consider moving to medium or fast now as DD is 4 mths old. But we use Playtex drop ins and their slow is very fast IMO.

I switched when I saw how long it was taking him to complete a feeding. I switched him once he turned 3 months to the 3 month nipple (Dr Browns) then he started eating more and finishing so much quicker.

Re: Bottle users - How do you know when to increase to a faster nipple flow?
When they take longer than usual to finish a bottle (like 2-3 times the normal time)
When the fall asleep during a feeding (if they don't normally)
When they become frustrated or cry during a bottle.

When it seemed to be taking FOREVER for him to finish a bottle we switched and he was getting frustrated and it seemed obvious the frustration had "Something" to do with the nipple.

Abby is a slow eater. I thought she had been struggling so one day I offered her a medium flow nipple - HUGE mistake. She ended up wearing most of her bottle. She still uses a slow flow at 7 months. Every child is different.

I use Dr Browns, so I was planning on waiting until he was 3 months before switching to the level 2 nipples.

OMG... Brody is my 2nd child, and he is 6 months old. I never switched DD to a faster flow nipple ever....Brody is still using the bottles with the original nipples...
My bad!!! I guess I will be going shopping tomorrow!

Re: Bottle users - How do you know when to increase to a faster nipple flow?
I kinda just took the plunge one day and wanted to see how it worked out. DD almost never complains about anything. I'm sure she would have stayed on Level 1s forever, but one day I just decided to try a 2 and see what happened. She seemed completely unfazed by it and it's nice because it takes much less time for her to get through the bottle!

Same here since that was what their web site recommended.
