How do I know when to increase bottle amount?

DD is 3 months and has been doing well on a 5 oz. bottle. I am BF and typically only give her 1 bottle a day (my mom gives it to her so I can take a nap Chat Icon). She seems content after 5 oz. but is hungry about 2 hours later. Is it time to increase? Should I go for 5 1/2 oz. or 6 oz?

sure why not. Chat Icon If she doesn't take it, then you know the 5 ounces is plenty. If she takes it, continue with it.

I think at that age, by son was around 5-6 ounces too!

you can try 6 oz. - i always added more formula at the next feeding if he sucked it dry Chat Icon because he usually always leaves a little (like 1/2 oz.) at the bottom.

I think if she consistantly sucks the bottle dry and is looking for more, add another ounce.

here's my personal rule of thumb:
if the baby finishes the bottle, make more and continue feeding....

yah if shes sucking it dry then def add half an ounce, also she's really close to Chelsea's age, and she just went through a growth spurt so it could be DD is going through one and needs moreChat Icon

Re: How do I know when to increase bottle amount?

Ok, so I gave her 5 1/2 oz. and she took it all. Maybe I'll try for 6 oz. next time? The issue I'm having is that she very rarely looks for more at the end of the bottle...I'll discover that maybe she needs some more when she's hungry 2 hours later instead of 3...but since I only do one bottle a day and the next session is a BF, I have no idea how much she gets at the breast. So confusing!!
