Re: Boy Mommies - Let's talk play kitchens...
Posted by Michelle I love the one with the grill, but if we got one we would need to put it against the wall, not in the middle of the den.
That's a big reason why we're getting the one I posted. Space is a huge issue! I'm going to be purging (donating and garbaging ) many of their toys before the summer to make room for new stuff.

Re: Boy Mommies - Let's talk play kitchens...
My son has the one Lauren, Michaels mommy has. He was just playing with it today with his cousin. Okay, what is with the fear men have of a toy kitchen?? Don't get it. If it's a BBQ it's ok, but a kitchen scares them.

I love these kitchens ladies!!!
Not for nothing, but Emeril is doing pretty well for himself, as is the naked shef, and all the other men chefs on the food network!!!

I am not a boy mommy, but just had to chime in. As girl mommies we appreciate all that you do to make our future son-in-laws feel comfortable in the kitchen!
I agree
I don't think it's a "girl" thing either.
Boys need to know how to cook and know their way around a kitchen as much as girls do.

My sons have a corner kitchen playset. It doesn't take up much room at all, the colors are blue/white/black/silver (manly colors ), and it really is cute.

Re: Boy Mommies - Let's talk play kitchens...
From a DH's point of view, I think it great that my DS is interested in the kitchen. We have an old kitchen set that we bought at a yard sale, and keep outside (no room inside at this point). All the colors are faded, so it's very pink and lavender. He doesn't care. He loves playing with it. He also loves "helping" DW in the real kitchen. He's almost 4, and he cracks open eggs, mixes bowls, reads directions (he does better with the Betty Crocker muffin mix that has pictures of eggs and milk, but he does actually read quite a bit.) I never learned how to be comfortable in the kitchen. I can follow directions, and I could fend for myself if I was forced to, but I am rarely in the kitchen. I went from my mom's house, to college, to living with my wife, so I never had to cook for myself. I really want to change that with DS. I don't plan on him being a world-class chef (but if he wants to, that's great), but I want him to be comfortable around a kitchen, and able to cook really nice meals for himself, his future girlfriend/wife/family, and his current family (mainly me when DW is out of the house... )

Re: Boy Mommies - Let's talk play kitchens...
My bf got Alex a kitchen for Christmas. At first DH was but now he thinks its cute. Alex loves to help in the kitchen. I always let him help with mixing things and pouring ingredients in. I don't see anything wrong with it. As another poster pointed out the are great male chefs, in fact it is still a male dominated industry. We have this one and I dont' think it is girly.
