boys first birthday theme?

Joey's first birthday is May 8th. We know we want a backyard BBQ, but we are having a hard time coming up with a theme. He likes Elmo and the Backyardigans, so those are possibilities. I was also thinking just a generic boy first birthday theme. What did you all do for your boy's first birthday? I want something that will be easy to plan a theme around- the paper goods, party favors, cake, invites, etc. TIA!

For DS#1 we did Sesame Street and BJ's has a great cake. For DS#2 we are doing a Winnie the Pooh theme. When I went to Party City there were loads of stuff for Backyardigans. Party City also has a 1st birthday section. I say go and check out your options at the party store.

I really enjoyed the Sesame Street theme though - there was alot to work with for a first birthday.

I did red, white and blue. We had generic party things with a #1 and a bear at my mom's the actual day for immediate familiy.

Party City has Winnie the Pooh or Sesame Street with #1. I found the bear things at Cederhurst paper.

Todd Jr will be 1 on May 5th (Cinco De Mayo) so we are having his b-day at our favorite mexican restaurant, and I'm going to get some birthday prince stuff as well.

We did this theme for DS party. I ordered everything(papergoods, invites, thank yous and balloons) from the website. I made his cake, but I was going to bring if I didn't do that I was going to bring a napkin to the bakery to have them design it on the cake.

For favors we did beach pails with some summer toys.

I was going to do a character, but decided to do 1st birthday since it would be the only time I could!!

We did a sports theme they have at party city a one with sports stuff on it... i dont know about your DH but mine is very into sports and stuff so is my DS he loves to watch all types or sports and stuff so thats what we did

We did Sesame Street---we just had a small family/friend party and I figured I could save a lot of the decorations and use it again if we have another DC

We did Elmo and had no trouble with decorations...Party CIty had stuff, we did red table cloths, Elmo balloons on the tables along with blue stars, a Sesame STreet cake from BJ's (came out awesome), got Elmo chocolate lollipops from Ebay, and hired an Elmo to sing and dance. I was very happy wiht how it all came together.
