Boys Name Question
I don't know what I'm having yet but my gut tells me boy. Tonight at dinner, we started discussing names. I am really against naming my children after family members. It's a big peeve of mine (don't care what anyone else does, it's just not for me). Anyway, here is my question:
Is Jackson too similar to Jack?
FIL is Jack. DH and I both decided we like Jackson and if we were to give him a nickname, it would be Jacks (Jax) and not Jack. But I'm thinking FIL and others will think we named him after FIL and that is something I don't want to happen.
Thoughts?

Re: Boys Name Question
They will 100% think it's after FIL and no matter how much you say it isn't they will believe in their minds that it is . I say stear clear of the name, how about Greyson instead

Boys Name Question
Jack is the most logical nick name for Jackson so I think it is just too similar if your goal is to avoid naming a son after a family member.

Re: Boys Name Question
Love the name, but too similar to Jack. They will most likely think you named him after your FIL.

Re: Boys Name Question
DH (we are having a boy) actually love Jackson, but we believe that it is inevitable that he will be called Jack. Not that I don't like Jack, I just don't want a really common name as I was always 1 of 5 christine's in all my classes growing up, I am sensitive to that!

Boys Name Question
I love Jackson, especially with your daughters name. I think they go nicely together.
If it really bothered you, you could just tell your FIL that he wasn't named after him lol.

Re: Boys Name Question
I love the name, but I agree with the PP that your FIL will most likely think the baby is named after him. You can try to call the baby Jax/Jacks, but some people might still just call him Jack.

Re: Boys Name Question
What about spelling it Jaxon and calling him Jax? Thought maybe if the "jack" wasn't in it, it could work.

Boys Name Question
If you have a good relationship then yes, I can see people may think he's named after your FIL.
I had the same issue for a potential girl's name. I love the name Cora but it's too similar to my BIL's name and I just did not want to answer that question for the rest of my life lolol. So I get it.

Boys Name Question
Jaxson was one of the boy names I liked this time around and would've called him jax not jack at all. I mean it's similar but I think it's differennt from jack!

Re: Boys Name Question
I don't think you can prevent what nicknames other people use for your son - especially once he starts school. So people will likely call him Jack, as well as Jax.

Re: Boys Name Question
I also think he will end up being called jack , you might have a fighting chance if you spell it Jaxson and then jax for short.

Re: Boys Name Question
I disagree with the pp's. My nephew is Jackson and no one ever calls him Jack. He's Jackson. Close family will call him Jax for short.

Boys Name Question
I like the name, and you can think about Jake as a nickname. We have a Jackson in our playgroup, an we everyone calls him Jackson, even the little ones but when they call him Jackson, it usually sounds more like Jason :)
