Bragging mommy moment!

Tonight Cailen and I went to a little Japanese restaurant near me. It is a little treat when DH is not going to be home. Cailen always enjoys the edamame, and has a bowl of brown rice with avocado. Cheap date! (I'm a pretty cheap date too!!)

So, we are sitting and chatting about his day. He is sitting and eating, and when the cute little waitress brings things over, he flashes her a charming smile and says thank you.

As we are finishing up, she comes over and raves at how well behaved he is. She said most kids poke her with the chop sticks and are obnoxious, but he is so good!

She must have mentioned it 3 more times as we were there, telling the other waitresses...

And he really is. At 2 years 8 months old, he really is my little buddy and he has come to learn how to behave in most settings. It has taken a lot of hard work, a lot of warnings, time outs, and threats to get him there, but we did it!!!

I love him more and more every day. Going out to dinner with him on these special nights is my favorite time with him...

That is so cute. You should be proud. Although at times DD makes me want to pull my hair out, she is a well behaved little girl. Sometimes it takes someone to remind us how good our kids really are.

It's a combination of a few things - the easiest things were it was early - around 6:00, rather than 8:00, which would be tougher, and he is 2 and a half not 15 or 18 months old....

The other things take more time and energy, but pay off....

We rarely took him out of his high chair once he was walking age, even if he fussed.

Starting at 15 mts old, he either sat in his seat or was taken outside for a time out if he cried or refused- we were very consistent about that

We do not let the wait staff bring his food out first - he gets his food when we eat or he will be done by the time we are ready to eat which is a disaster

He also sincerely is starting to enjoy spending the time with us. We don't go out that much, but when we do I think he is becoming aware that it is a privilege. He likes to be treated like a big boy - he no longer sits in a high chair, and he knows if he doesn't sit nicely his butt will wind up in one Chat Icon

Am I supposed to respond now or only when he farts? Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm also starting to realize that it works out better when the waiter or waitress brings DS's meal with mine.

How sweet!!!!!! Cailen is such a good boy!
I agree with the tip of taking them out young. DD was also in restaurants as a baby and she does really well.
Crazy as this sounds, heres an extra tip...
Its not the most ideal thing but maybe it will help some of you to enjoy your dinner. Buy a mini dvd player and stick in a fave cartoon or what not. I am starting to consider it since some of our restaurants look like they are boring her as she gets older. I havent done it as of yet but I have seen it done. Not a bad thing if the child wont sit that long.

I think this is SO important....we never took miki to restaurants when she was a baby so even now, at 2 1/2, she has a tough time behaving (sitting still, not wanting to run around the restaurant like a maniac, etc)

we plan to take KJ out with us at an early age so at least one of my children will be well behaved Chat Icon Chat Icon
