Breast Biopsy
I am 27. I had been feeling breast pain and lumps since I got off of birth control a few months ago and my gynocologist said she I probably have fibrocystic breasts. She sent me for an ultrasound just so I wouldn't be worried it was anything serious. Well, then I have the ultrasound and I was told they found something abnormal and that I have to go for a breast biopsy. I know they stick a needle in there to get results. But I don't really know what else happens.
Do you meet with the doctor beforehand, like a consultation? Are you awake while the procedure is being done? How long does the actual procedure take? How long do you have to stay there afterwards? Does it hurt? Does it leave a scar? Does it hurt after? For how long? Is it expensive? Anything else I should know?

I just did this last week. I went to Zwanger in Stony Brook, they were great.
I had an ultrasound guided needle biopsy. The tech held the ultrasound thing and the doc gave me 2 injections of lodoaine. Then they used a kinda "loud" machine that took about 4 samples from my breast. It really wasn't that bad at all. Maybe about as bad as getting your ears pierced but I just took an advil and I was ok. The bruising is pretty scary though so just be prepared for that. Also they left a "marker" where the mass was so that way they can find it easily next time. The marker was a tiny peice of titanium. The procedure was about 5 minutes, prep time was like 15 minutes. I was awake and talking the entire time asking the nurse about everything I was seeing.
Explained perfectly in this post. Honestly its the anxiety of the waiting for the results that is the worst. The procedure itself is not painful AT ALL. I am praying for good results. Keep the faith

Re: Breast Biopsy
Fibrocystic breasts aren't really such a problem (as you might initially fear). The thing to watch out for is fungus (greenish fluid expressed from the nipple). Doctors tend to be dismissive of this, saying it's just colostrum; but over time and down the line, if the body learns to ignore fungal fluids in the breast, it could lead to a bigger problem, like lymphoma, breast & other cancers. Plus, Rx antifungals are VERY HARD on the liver, and don't clean up the fungal infection in the colostrum very well, if at all. So taking the doctor's meds for this can damage your liver, but still leave you with greenish breast fluid.
The body has difficulty telling the difference between fungus and cancer, so it could learn to ignore growing cancer, which is always a big problem. You're smart to get this checked out.
You might want to get Doug Kaufman's book, "Know The Cause," and implement the knowledge therein to prevent future problems.
Also, getting natural anti-inflammatories and antifungals to take on a daily basis will go a long way towards helping yourself. Boswellia, neem, myrhh and sage are helpful. Good luck!
