Re: Breast Cancer Stage III
Thank you all for the hugs & prayers.
Deb - I'm not sure what type it is. I'm trying to find out more information.
Right now I'm not even sure what to do for her. She's in Atlanta.
Our other friends are sending her a basket of lotions, etc. I did tell them that there will be very few lotions that she's going to be able to put on with radiation.
My other friend went through breast cancer (stage I) but I don't think I can even ask her what to do.
Whenever I can figure out the words to write, I'll start sending cards. I'm rarely at a loss of what to do & I"m sitting here dumbstruck.

Re: Breast Cancer Stage III
Barb- Keep in mind I went thru a radical treatment, ANY questions ask me. I have a specific lotion I was able to use during treatment, plus being so close to the armpit she will have to wear a specific deoderant. Perhaps buy her a hat of hope? I have one and I wore it when I was losing my hair. On the inside there are about 4 or 5 inspiration quotes (that's where I got my avatar title from. Another one is, Women are like tea bags. You never know how strong they are going to be until they get in hot water ~Eleanor Roosevelt). For ALL you have done for me research, advice or talking or whatever I can offer is yours. FM if you need someone to talk to and I will give you my number!

Barb, do you know what the actual cancer is called? Not all breast cancers are the same (e.g. i have head and neck cancer but the tumor cells are specifically catorgorized by being named adenoid cystic carcinoma). If you get the name I can search on some of the cancer sites I have in my faves plus I can search on some cancer boards that I post on
Good point, DebG!
Also... Barb, just so you know. My mom is a breast cancer survivor. While her cancer was not stage 3, she had basically THE most dangerous, deadly, and fastest-growing breast cancer types. She's nearly 2 years cancer free and doing GREAT!
Detecting it early and getting on the treatment ball are key -- and a positive outlook and determination to beat the cancer is also key.
Best of luck to your friend! All hope is NOT lost.

Call like usual. Let her talk about it if she wants to or talk about regular ole life if she wants to. Keep being her friend, and I'm SURE she'll apprecaite that. You don't need to have all the right words - just being a good friend (which your concern here shows you are) will be so helpful.

Re: Breast Cancer Stage III
My husband's aunt was diagnosed with cancer in her breasts and lymph nodes. The doctor told her that she only had 6 months to live. She decided that if she only had 6 months to live that she was going to really live in those 6 months. She took a trip to Hawaii (which she couldn't afford) and bought what she wanted when she wanted it. She ended up maxing out all her credit cards. Her thinking was what the hell, I won't be here when the bills come in.
Well, 32 years later she is doing great (and is probably still paying off her credit cards). The cancer has been in remission for about 30ish years. She's a fighter and she fought hard. I admire her so much for her strength and courage. I am sorry that your friend is going through this but she can overcome it.

Re: Breast Cancer Stage III
There are two parts to Stage III breat cancer, Stage IIIA and Stage IIIB. Her treatment and recovery will depend upon which part of stage III she is in.

Re: Breast Cancer Stage III
My grandmother was just diagnosed with Stage IV and it has NOT gone to her lymphnodes. It has spread to one of her lungs though. She is taking a hormone pill now to shrink the mass in her breast and than will be getting a masectomy (sp?). They gave her a wonderful prognoses of 5-10 yrs and she is already 81 yrs. old.
Think positive!
