Breast feeding and pumping?????
Hi ladies this is my first official question on the parenting board I am currently breastfeeding. I rented a breast pump because I would like to start up a back up supply. How do I go about breastfeeding my daughter and then pumping for an extra supply??? I do not mind using a supplement formula for a feeding here and there if that is a must but I am also curious if you can just do it on your own. So for example. If I started breast feeding at 6pm and finished at 7 pm when should I pump - she normally feeds every 2 to 2 1/2 hours? Is this possible to do ??
Thank you

Re: Breast feeding and pumping?????
I started pumping when ds was 2 days old, I did every morning (before he ate even though we had no schedule at this point) and whenever he was sleeping for a while. I never even looked at it like I was taking food away from him, the lc stressed that their stomachs were so tiny and could only hold a thimble- so i figured i was beefing up the supply.

Re: Breast feeding and pumping?????
I always pumped right after I fed the baby for a few minutes, each side to build my supply up
after a week or two, the supply increased
with my ds (baby #2) we had ALOT of breastfeeding and I never got much by pumping
good luck, there are so many others with much more experience, I hope they chime in
you can do a search for "pumping" and get some related posts to scan through

right after. wait for a second letdown. even if nothing is coming out. wait and don't stop pumping until the second session is finished.
