Breast Feeding Mommies
Hi ladies,
I am fairly new to this board. Just had our little girl Natalia Brielle on Thursday. I am breastfeeding and was wondering if anyone could offer me some dietary suggestions. TIA!!!

Re: Breast Feeding Mommies
congratulations and welcome to the parenting board!
I pretty much eat as though I am pregnant- you need the same amount of calories. Keep your water up and I also started drinking only decaf because it bothered my ds. Other than that no real changes are necessary.
I do drink a glass of wine daily too and my ped said that's fine- but I would check with yours to see what they think

Hi and Welcome!
BFing diet is trial and error. DD was sensitive to chocolate and red sauce. So try to keep track of what you eat and see if it affects her.
Best of Luck to you!

Re: Breast Feeding Mommies
I eat anything I want. I eat sushi (try to watch how much tuna/high merc. fish you eat. It should be limited). I will drink one cup of coffee.... you can drink wine as long as you dont get drunk. If you do you have to wait I think 2 hrs until you nurse again. I dont take anything but tylonal.
ETA: My DS gets so gassy when I eat brocoli so I dont anymore. Its trial and error.

Re: Breast Feeding Mommies
I had a c-section and was taking Motrin for pain relief several times a day for the first week or so I was home. It was given to me by the nurses at the hospital so it is absolutely fine while BFing. For headaches I just take regular strength Tylenol.
As far as eating, I really haven't cut anything out. I am ALWAYS hungry and pretty much eat whatever I want! DS is 8 months old and I've never noticed a reaction to anything I've eaten so I just go for it! But like a PP said, for the first few weeks it might be a good idea to keep track of what you eat in case your DC has a reaction. I drink a cup of regular tea every day, and diet soda most nights with dinner and again- never noticed DS reacting adversely to the caffeine.
Everyone's different though, so definitely be mindful of what you eat/drink, at least at first.
Congratulations!!

Other than avoiding too much alcohol and caffeine, no. The only thing you want to watch for is for any sensitivities your DC may have, like Tilde mentioned. Certain things you eat may make your DC gassy. For me it was the obvious stuff....spicy foods, broccoli, cauliflower, and beans.
Congrats!!!
ETA: Regular Motrin and Tylenol are fine but avoid any meds containing pseudoephedrine (sp?) like Sudafed as they may decrease your milk supply.
