Breast pain (UPDATED: called dr.)

Does anyone know what this could be?
I have a very sore breast. I pump and BF. (for 3 weeks now) This only started 2 days ago. It's not the nipple but the surrounding breast. I also don't think it's engorgement cause it is still there after i pump and it is only the right side.
Should I call the doc?

UPDATE

OK so I called the dr, and spoke to a nurse. She said she don't think it is a infection cause I don't think I had a fever. I did tell her that at night I get the chills.
But she also said that if it was an infection I would have a rash also.....
Anyways she thinks it is engorgement and told me to keep pumping. If it is still painfull Monday to come in.

This is so frustrating cause I think it's an infection also!!!

Re: Breast pain

I'd call the doctor just to make sure it isn't anything like mastitis. I hope you get relief soon. Chat Icon

Re: Breast pain

I had that a number of times - IMO it was an infection.

I would get a palm sized red area on my breast that was really tender and hot to the touch. I would also run a fever. I would keep me in bed for 24 hours.

I believe it was because my baby didn't latch correctly and the pump isn't as effective as a baby at emptying the breast.

ETA - I should clarify that I said "IMO it was an infection" because I went to the dr. and she said it wasn't mastitis, but she didn't know what it was. She could clearly see the redness though

Re: Breast pain

I would call the dr, it may be an infection or a clogged duct.

I think its a clogged duct. I get them. Run the hottest water you can stand on it. I have a handheld showerhead that I put on the hardest massage and hold that on the area. Then pump right after you get out. It works. You can also fill a bowl with hot water and immerse your boob tho I haven't tried that
