breastfeeding & stony brook hospital.. spinoff..i forgot this pisssed me off
i really never gave it much thought throughout my first pregnancy... my approach was i would try it and see
when i was in the hospital and exhausted after a c-section (emergency) they really pressured me to BF
i did at some times, but then
i remember asking for formula and saying i would BF later and that i wasn't up to it at the moment and they really pushed it
did anyone else have this experience?
with my 2nd baby, can i just tell them i don't want to BF (if i choose that, idk) and they will be okay with that?

I didn't deliver at Stonybrook but remember- it's YOUR choice.
Don't let ANYONE pressure you.
Just keep repeating yourself until they listen.
Stand your ground.
Let them pressure you all they want- dont' back down.
They arent' the ones who have to take that baby home!

I did not deliver at Stony Brook, but I have a friend that delivered there and she said they really pushed her to BF. Her DC was a preemie though, so maybe that is why?

I delivered at SB - I BF, but there wasn't any pressure to do it.
BUT - one night DS wouldn't stop crying & I had a nurse keep pushing formula on us. We told her to take a hike & got a new nurse that night.

Dont know if they are one, but it's possible that they are a designated "baby-friendly" hospital, as designated by UNICEF and the WHO. Our hospital in DC was, and they do not give you formula or a pacifier.

I delivered at SB and BF for the first 4 1/2 months of DS's life, however, I had a hard time BFing in the hospital because of the BP meds I was on so DS did have formula in the hospital. So they were fine with doing some BFing and some formula.

Actually, no. For both pregnancies, the nursing staff was very supportive of my decision. I was breastfeeding so I didn't get any pressure in that regard. They even let me take home some sample formula because I was nervous about breastfeeding and she was my first.

I delivered at SB and BF but DS was in the NICU so I pumped. They never pressured me to BF

I was asked ONCE: BF or bottle, i said bottle, and i was never asked again.
They sent me home with a week supply of formula, too.

I delivered there and they never ever once even brought up breastfeeding or formula feeding. All the nurses would ask, I said bottle, no one even tried or batted an eye with it.

When I was there last month with my ds they did not pressure me at all..i said i wasnt sure and they said it was my choice and if they could help just let them know..never felt pressured at all

I think it depends on the nurses....I'd be annoyed in your situation too.
I delivered there in June and was asked a few times if I was BF (I was) but they certainly didn't push it on me....they were helpful, sending in the Lactation Consultant, answering questions, etc.

Me too. The lactation consultant did not visit my room, and once I told the first nurse my preference, no one else asked.
