Re: Breastfeeding Moms I have a question
I didn't cut out anything unless it bothered them. For DS, he couldn't tolerate anything with tomato's or tomato sauce. DD, she was fine. Some people cut out caffine, I only had 1 cup of caffiniated coffee a day or just had decaf.

Honestly I don't cut out much except for caffeine b/c I feel it makes DD sleep less....I would try anything and if my DD seems gassy I limit that food going forward, but I really don't eliminate it.
I generally eat the same things. I know I should eat more fruits and veggies though..

Re: Breastfeeding Moms I have a question
So far I haven't cut anything out. I think the only thing I ate that really bothered her was 2 slices of spinach pizza. The nurses in L and D told me that spinach can cause the baby to have gas. Figures, it's one of the few veggies I actually like

Re: Breastfeeding Moms I have a question
I didn't cut out anything. (Well, alcohol was cut out, but I think that's obvious.) I finally enjoyed my Diet Pepsi. I ate garlic and broccoli and anything I could think of. But he has a strong stomach and wasn't bothered by anything.

Re: Breastfeeding Moms I have a question
I really only reduce the VERY gassy foods. Otherwise, I pretty much eat the same way I always have. I only have 1 cup of coffee a day anyway so I wasn't cutting anything out there. I don't drink caffeinated cold beverages anyway.

Re: Breastfeeding Moms I have a question
I cut out alcohol, excess sugar and gassy veggies. Now that I think of it, I had to limit my dairy for a little while too.

Re: Breastfeeding Moms I have a question
I cut out gassy veggies, some teas and coffee, and cut back on peanut butter. I also stay away from acidic juices. DD is a very gassy baby but doesnt get bothered by it too much.

Didn't cut anything out. Still have my two cups of coffee, peanut butter and jelly and an occasional glass of wine.

Re: Breastfeeding Moms I have a question
I try to avoid broccoli or anything that makes ME overly gassy....I figure if it makes me gassy, it makes her gassy.
I have my 1 oversize mug of tea in the AM, sometimes some soda throughout the day.
Heck, I even indulge in a beer here and there!
I eat PB & J ALL the time. She doesn't seem to like tomatoes though....that stinks cuz I love pasta.

Re: Breastfeeding Moms I have a question
If you're lucky you shouldn't have to give up anything. With both my kids I've had to really watch the intake of dairy. I don't remember what else with DD but so far with DS I can't do tomatoes, broccoli or chocolate. Boo! It sucks but to me BFing is more important.

I did not cut out anything. I looked for signs that food might have bothered DD, but never noticed any. I will even have a beer or glass of wine once in awhile, usually after DD's last feeding of the night or immediately after she eats.
Same here.

Re: Breastfeeding Moms I have a question
6 months into EBF and the only thing I have removed from my diet is shrimp. And that is only because when Ryan was about 8 weeks I had grilled shrimp on a salad and the next day he spit up more than usual. I bet if I ate it now he'd be fine. Just don't see the need in putting him through it.
As you go along you will notice if some foods irritate your DC. If you see your DC has gas problems (has a hard time pushing farts out, etc) stay away from greens.

Re: Breastfeeding Moms I have a question
I ate normally - I did have to cut out a few small items that made her gassy or fussy but otherwise I ate normally. I cut out - beans, broccoli (and like 2 other gassy veggies) and caffeine otherwise I had no issues. My ped recommended that I eat normally and only cut something if it was bothering DD. I was able to reintroduce caffeine later on.

Re: Breastfeeding Moms I have a question
I try to avoid spicy foods and certain vegetables that can make DS gassy. My pediatrician also recommended avoiding nuts, especially peanuts. Other doctors have different opinions about that though.
