Breastfeeding Moms- Teabags on cracked/bleeding nipples?
So my nipples are still cracked and bleeding after 2 weeks of breastfeeding. I saw a nurse/Lacatation Consultant at my doctors office yesterday who told me to run warm water over reg tea bags (not decaf or herbal) and then place them on my nipples for 15minutes after each feeding. has anyone heard of this or tried this? Does this work? Its kinda messy so I was wondering if its worth it!
TIA

Hmm, never heard of that before but it does make sense: we do put tea bags over infected or irritated eyes and that's pretty much the same thing!
I hope you are better in no time!

Yes I've heard of this. Are you using Lansinoh after each feeding. I'm sure you are but just figured I'd ask.

Re: Breastfeeding Moms- Teabags on cracked/bleeding nipples?
I never heard of the teabags but try it!
I was so sore and I had cracked and bleeding nipples and was so engorged that I never thought I would be able to continue with it. By the end of the first week and I got over the pain and the dryness and bleeding went away it got real easy for me. In the hospital, the nurses told me to take my milk and rub it over the nipples and let it air dry. I hope it works out for you!

They actually suggested this while I was in the hospital with DS and it did give a little relief but it didn't last too long. I was really willing to try anything because Ds had latching issues. It couldn't hurt to try it

I was but the LC told me to stop for now. Not sure why....guess I should've asked that but I totally forgot.

I just used Lansinoh & sucked it up. It helped tremendously. I don't think anyone truly gets that kind of pain until they've experienced it.

I used the lanisoh and frozen cabbage leaves. I still remember the relief when I first used the leaves, heaven! I never tried teabags.

No and as far as I know tea bags dry out your skin. I used Nalonil, it worked soooo well for me, it was the best thing ever.
I found this website for you:

i was also using the chilled cabbage but the LC told me that the cabbage only helps with engorgement. But it def feels good on the nipples as well!

I used Ameda comfort gel pads. They REALLY helped me. I didn't bleed but I was so sore and cracked and in so much pain.

Re: Breastfeeding Moms- Teabags on cracked/bleeding nipples?
I was also in a lot of pain initially -what helped me recover was using a nipple shield for a couple of weeks. It helped my latch, which me and baby were struggling with, and let me heal for a while. Babies r us sells them!

Re: Breastfeeding Moms- Teabags on cracked/bleeding nipples?
this didn't happen to me, so i'm not speaking from experience, but a random woman in BRU actually told me that teabags work wonders! (don't ask me how i ended up involved in that conversation with a complete stranger )
i personally used the lansinoh ointment, which helped a lot. i also know a lot of women use those soothie things and like them too.
