Breastfeeding Second Baby
As of Monday I am a mommy of two!
Those who BF more a 2nd (or 3rd, etc) DC, did you not get engorged the second time around? My boobs do not feel full at all, but DD is having enough wet and dirty diapers, and I can hear her swallowing while she is eating. She also always has milk coming out of her mouth at the end of a feeding, so I know there is milk there, and I can manually express some (since my nipples are so cracked and I am trying to use it to heal them).
Is it normal for them not to be painful and engorged the second time around? I nursed DD1 until she was 15 months, which was 8 months ago, so I am thinking maybe my body just knows what to do. Thanks!

Breastfeeding Second Baby
My experience was totally different with both. DD was 1st and I was never engorged. With DS my supply was so much greater, I think because I just new what to do with water, diet, etc.
As long as she's having enough wet and dirty diapers she's fine. I didn't feel engorged unless I missed feedings and couldn't pump. It just means you don't have an oversupply.

Re: Breastfeeding Second Baby
I was extremely engorged with both of my kids. I only BF for about 4 months so maybe you BF for 15 month has something to do with it. As long as baby has wet diapers you're doing fine!

Re: Breastfeeding Second Baby
I don't think I felt engorgement until week 2 and then it regulated by week 4 or so

Re: Breastfeeding Second Baby
CONGRATS!!!!!!! My experience the second time around was very different. There was MUCH less full feeling and leaking etc. I never felt that uncomfortable engorgement the second time when my milk came in. With my first it was insane the engorgement and the leaking and even squirting (sorry for the TMI) but just trying to give you an idea...it was NOT like that the second time at all. I also had no pain, no clogging, cracking etc. was MUCh easier. HTH! GOod luck!

Re: Breastfeeding Second Baby
I wish!
I BF DD1 for 13months, & you'd have thought with DD2 I was a newbie! I was just as engorged, trouble latching, she caused EXCRUCIATING pain, & everyday I struggled to keep trying. BUT eventually it clicked & I made it to 13mo with #2 also.
Luckily with DD2 the post partum nurses introduced me to the gelling pads

Re: Breastfeeding Second Baby
Congratulations! I had a much easier time with DS#2. I am sure you are fine, esp if you see all the signs that baby is getting enough. I second the gel pads! I used these: gel pads
