Breathable Bumpers to Padded Bumpers - BTDT?
I have used the breathable bumpers from the beginning because of all the warnings about SIDS. My DS is now 7.5 months old and he is a lot more active in the crib. He's learning to sit up by himself and rolls around a lot. He sometimes falls back pretty hard and a few times has escaped hitting his head hard on the crib rails.
I would like to now switch to the padded bumpers - has anyone else done that? I was thinking that now that he is older, perhaps he would be less likely to get caught up against the bumper. Should I just not worry about him hitting his head and leave the breathable bumpers?
TIA!!

He is most likely strong enough to move himself away for the bumpers if he realizes that he is not breathing even when he is sleeping...I would switch to the padded bumpers!

I wouldn't switch. Kids can recover from a bump on the head. They cannot recover from suffocation.

We used breathable bumpers with both kids and they never had a lump or anything. And they both were restless sleepers and would roll into the sides all night long.

DS is 10 months and we have had the breathable bumpers in since he was 3.5 months.
He moves around so much in the crib at night that I am still afraid to have anything in there that he might suffocate on... so we will be leaving the padded bumpers out.

I wouldn't switch. Once babies learn how to stand up, they can use the bumpers to boost them over the side.

This is why I wouldn't switch, either. There is no baby out there that can cause serious injury to themselves by falling or hitting into the sides of the crib. Otherwise, almost every baby in the world would have concussions. Even padded bumpers don't prevent head banging. They only cover the bottom few inches, and they could just as easily hit their head about the padded bumpers.
