Order big and have a good seamstress to take in as much as necessary!
One of my friends was a BM and had a similar (although sort of opposite) problem....she was going to be 8 months prego at the time of the wedding. She just ordered it big, and also was able to get extra material and the seamstress basically tore her dress in half and added panels down the side to accommodate her belly.

I think it really depends on the type of dress to figure out what size you will need. It it is an empire waist then I wouldn't go too big. But if the dress is fitted then you should maybe get a maternity dress since you will only be 1 month PP.

Try to hold off ordering it so you can see how you are carrying. At 4 weeks PP, I fit into most of my regular clothes - two sizes bigger would have been huge.

same for me... I was in a wedding 5 weeks pp. I was between sizes when I tried on the dress & ordered the larger size... it ended up being big enough & maybe even a little too big. I'm glad I didn't order 2 sizes up (the girl at the dress shop tried to convince me to do this & I said no).

Don't forget a lot of people get induced 1-2 weeks after due date. Others go a month early. So it's hard o tell, but taking in is easier then letting out.

I was a BM a few months pp an I ordered up 1 size from my pre-pregnancy size and it was perfect. Just needed it taken in a little. But, I only gained 18 pounds my entire pregnancy so I just needed room for my body shape changes, essentially.

I ordered 1 size bigger for my brothers wedding, which is in February and was supposed to be 2 months post-partum, now will be 3 months. I lost so much weight during my pregnancy, I think I ordered too big. But I was a big girl to start with.

The seamstresses work miracles. Order somewhere around your "normal" size and they will fix it. I got fitted for a dress before I got pregnant and then ended up being 21 weeks with twins at the wedding. They fixed it and made me look beautiful. They used the extra fabric from the other girls' alterations. They charged me the full alterations charge that was negotiated on our original contract and that was it. I was impressed!!

With my daughter, I gave birth 2/26 and was my sister's MOH on 4/4. I got my dress a few sizes bigger (that fit me pregnant) and had it altered as close to the wedding as I could. It worked out fine!

Pumping and dumping during the reception was another story...Chat Icon
