Bridesmaid's dress- 9 months preg (UPDATE)
So I am 21 weeks now and we are going shopping for bridemaid's dresses this weekend. I will be 38 weeks at the time of the wedding....omg. I can't get out of this wedding bc its for a family member and she was in my wedding. She is not a flexible type person so there will be no me ordering a maternity dress from anywhere else. Plus its a small bridal party and the other 2 girls will be in the same dress.
So we tried on dresses at David's Bridal right before I was preg and I was a size 4. I have gained about 7 pounds and have a tiny bump so I'm probably a 6 now. So what size would you order? I'm going to see if I can wait as long as possible to order but the wedding is less than 4 months away. A 12 maybe? 14? I have no idea. Its a black chiffon straless A line dress with a pleated bodice. Where the pleats fall will probably be at the top of my huge belly. My plan is to try on larger sizes and see how far they stretch. Maybe I should bring a basketball with me...ha.
Anyone have experience with being in a wedding at 9 months pregnant? Do tell! Thanks ladies
UPDATE: So we went to David's Bridal. I tried on the dress and am currently wearing a 6 at 22 weeks. I explained ot them I will be 38 weeks at the time of the wedding. They said I can order the first week of October! At least I will have a better idea of whats going on with my body by then. I tried on the 8 and the 10 with the strap on baby bump pillow they had. The boob area was huge on me and I'm up to a DD. SO that will have to be taken in. The big issue with the dress is the under layer which is under the chiffon- there is no give to it. Its VERY fitted. So basically I'm gonna probably have to order a big size and get the top taken in a lot. The lady also said since I am pregnant I can order the dress at the beginning of October and then if it comes in 6-8 weeks later I can exchange it for a different size. She said this way I'll save on alterations. Very nice of them to do that. Thanks for the help ladies.

Re: Bridesmaid's dress- 9 months preg
I personally have never had to order a dress but I had a bridesmaid who was pregnant for my wedding. She spoke with the bridal consultant, they suggested what size to order (which did seem big at the time) and she had it altered down. She looked great! I will have the opposite problem in a few months, I'll be ordering with the big belly for a wedding I'm in after baby is born. Good luck.

Maybe you can borrow a fake belly from destination maternity, lol. I would be afraid to go too big because the top might not be able to be altered to look right. Definitely consult with the seamstress and they'll tell you what size and if you should order extra fabric.

Re: Bridesmaid's dress- 9 months preg
I was a bridesmaid at 37 weeks in July. Also David's bridal but less flattering dress lol. Dress was short satin pleated and had a waist at your middle and there was no way to make it work at that point. I ended up with a maternity style that was very similar in a full length dress and then hemming it to knee length and adding a sash. Happy to show pix just message me. I was a size 4 pre baby and ordered a size 14. David's bridal said as long as dress was still available I could swap sizes as it got closer but I just stuck with the big one.

Bridesmaid's dress- 9 months preg
It's hard! I was a 4 before getting pregnant (probably bigger in those dresses since they run small) and needed a bridesmaid dress short notice. I went to a bridal place and tried on size 10s that were empire and flowy and even though I was only 4 months along and hadn't gained much they wouldn't come close to zipping! I would talk to the consultant and see what they recommend but definitely go up plenty. I still haven't figured out what I'm wearing and this wedding is 2.5 weeks away!!

Bridesmaid's dress- 9 months preg
Thanks for the advice ladies. I'll definitely ask what the consultants think but of course they will tell me to get a huge size. Whenever I got bridesmaid dresses and I wasn't preg they always suggest a bigger size and then its huge. I guess in this case I rather huge than too tight. Right now I'm very small for 21 weeks but I might all of a sudden get really big. Thing is you really never know. Also I could imagine I'll be spending more than the dress is worth in alterations...uhhh.

Crashing---I had to exchange my dress at David's because my bump wouldn't fit. They were very helpful and I got a dress off the rack. Same color different style.

If you're going through David's Bridal, I think you'll have better luck. I had to order my BM dress through Bridal Reflections for my brother's wedding at which I will be 2 months post-partem and breast feeding - it's strapless (sheer top, though can't wear a strapped bra) mermaid/trumpet fit. During the measurements they recommended to order me a 20 to give room for my boobs.

They had maternity dresses available off the rack? I may have to make a trip there!

Re: Bridesmaid's dress- 9 months preg
Ask the consultants. Some dresses just won't work for a 38 week belly, no matter what the size. You will really need something empire waisted, and if it's not maternity, you may also want to order extra material in case you need a panel.
Is it possible the bride will let you order a maternity dress? It can't hurt to ask.
ETA: There's no way to know how big you'll get if you're only 21 weeks now. At 21 weeks I didn't even look pregnant, but at 38 weeks I felt huge!

This this this! It also REALLY depends on the fabric and cut of the dress. I wore a size S non-maternity empire waist stretchy dress to my BIL wedding at 32 weeks. I wore a size 14 satin maternity bridesmaids dress altered (they basically just took it in at the chest and shortened the length from long to knee length) at 37 weeks. Some dresses just will not work for a pregnant belly --- like the one the bride chose for the other girls. I would have had to hike up the waist to be an empire waist and the knee-length dress would have turned into a shirt if it even would have fit my belly in the first place. I would see if the bride will let you order a maternity version. You might be surprised!

Bridesmaid's dress- 9 months preg
Thanks ladies. I'm gonna see what they say this weekend. I looked on David's Bridal website and there are only 2 maternity dresses for bridemaids, neither of which would work. Maybe there are more in store. One part of the dress will definitely not sit well bc its a cross part under the boob area. Its hard to estimate what I'll look like at 38 weeks. I can't even imagine how I will feel at 38 weeks being in a bridal party...sounds pretty exhausting.

I was gonna say... There is no way I would even be in a Wedding at 38 weeks. I give you a lot of credit. What if you go early? Can't imagine how exhausting it will be either way.

definitely talk to the seamstress. I was told to only order a size up and I thought she was insane.. but she said based on my measurements at 3 months (which I had no belly yet) that I should order a 10 ... bc my hips were wide but it would need to be taken in at the waist.. so she said going up only 1 size was plenty of room for the belly to grow.. she was 100% right.. I got a 12 and it fit perfect.. a good seamstress should be able to make an educated guess based on the dress style and your prebelly measurements. I was 34 weeks during the wedding

Can you post the dress? I'm just curios because it depends on the style if you will need to order bigger or get extra fabric.

If you zoom in on it you will see the pleated bodice that I think will be an issue.

Yeah I have no choice...its family. I gave her the ut and said I totally understand if you don't want a preg person in your wedding looking all fat in your pics...ha. She said she wanted me in it. Let's see if I make it! Its 2 weeks before my due date. I figure I'll do the pics, ceremony etc and then I'll be sitting at the reception.

Wow, only 1 size up is awesome. I think I'll definitely need a bigger dress based on the cut. Plus my boobs are already 1 size larger.

I was in a wedding with a similar dress (with straps), but I was only 12ish weeks. I didn't have a huge belly, but I was super bloated and was already in maternity clothes! I don't see the bodice being a problem. If anything, I would order extra length and have them raise the bodice if needed. They should be able to tell you what size you'll need. I would try it on with a fake belly also!
You wouldn't have to order a maternity dress, there are plenty of dresses that would be very accommodating for a pregnant belly- the dress my girls wore could've been worn by a pregnant lady. David's bridal has so many long chiffon options- they can suggest a similar style if this one doesn't work!

Re: Bridesmaid's dress- 9 months preg
I was 36-37 weeks when I was a bridesmaid in my friends wedding. I had to pick a maternity dress as the dress she picked would have not worked. I ordered like 3 or 4 sizes larger than my usual size and when it came in. It was huge on me! They had to take it in like 7 inches and it still was too big lol
If you go with a maternity dress dont go up too many sizes is my recommendation. If its a regular dress I would ask a consultant because they will know best.

They were not exactly maternity---although they had a limited selection--but the cut worked with my bump!

Maybe I should bring a basketball with me...ha.

One of my BMs was in your exact situation. They ordered her a 14 and she ended up needing the whole thing taken apart because it was HUGE! Shes like 5'8" and very slim. Im going to see if I can attach a pic of my girls. Shes the last one on the right. Wish me luck

Oh wow, thanks. Hopefully you can attach it. I'm definitely shorter 5'5. I have no idea what my bump will look like then but now at almost 22 weeks I barely have anything. Was it a David's Bridal dress?
