Bringing baby book to hospital
Did you bring your baby book to the hospital or just get a card/paper with the babies footprint and then attach it to the book when you got home?
Also, since the hospitals only seem to do the footprint and not the handprint, if your book has a page for the handprint also, did you do this on your own? I purchased a large inkpad that is non-toxic/acid free to do their handprints once they are born. Has anyone done this?

Re: Bringing baby book to hospital
I brought the book and flagged the foot print page. They would have made us foot prints on other things but me being GD, they had to wisk the baby away quickly and get her checked out.
They did give us an ink pad to do at home but it didnt work. We didnt do the hand print. At that age it was hard, her hands were always clutched close, and the ink was hard enough to wash off feet.

Re: Bringing baby book to hospital
i am in the delivery room alot for my job.. we are the ones that recieve the baby.. we are the ones that footprint the baby.. our hands are full of vernix and blood... i feel terrible touching the baby book to footprint the baby on it.. i would highly suggest asking the nurse to do it when the baby is bathed and in your room a couple hours later. Baby soap takes the ink off easily and when the baby is calm like after a feeding it is much easier to get the prints. as opposed to when he is first born and screaming! HTH
eta: i always offer to print the dads arm with the babies foot. that usually gets a tear or two!

I agree - leave the book at home and just bring nice cardstock...you can mount it on the page afterward.
I would also suggest asking the nurse to do a hand print for you...worst she says is no. Our nurse was so amazing - took pictures...made multiple footprint cards and I don't doubt that she would have at least considered a hand print if we asked.

I brought that page with us and they put her footprints on it, but then it got lost when they moved me from L&D to maternity. L&D said they gave it to my doc, my doc said he never saw it.

Re: Bringing baby book to hospital
I didn't bring the book with me, but then the nurse said she could do it if I wanted it, so DH brought it up for me the next day.

I brought cardstock but then I didn't bother. I had too much on my mind with baby going to NICU.

The hospital gave me a certificate with Michael's footprints on it right after he was born.

I always change my gloves when it's time to footprint. So not too messy I don't think or sometimes I'll ask the dad to hold the book while I press their foot against it. Handprints just aren't possible at that age.

I went into labor early, but the NICU nurses were nice enough to make a card for me with his footprints to put in his book

Re: Bringing baby book to hospital
The page for the foot/hand prints was not removable so we brought the whole book. The nurse did the foot prints but they dont do hand prints anymore so she gave us ink and cleaning wipes to bring home to do the hands at home. I loved my hospital.

Re: Bringing baby book to hospital
We brought the book with us. Our book had individual pages for the hands and feet- so we just left thehands page blank.

They did that to DH with both our kids too. It was the best. My DH didn't want to wash his arm. lol
I also did bring my book. They stamped the foot in the book and the nurse was nice enough to do the hand too.
She even made a footprint on the pic of DC#1 that I put into the bassinet at the hospital. Great keepsake.
